Time to BOMB the Gasser

Daughters Name !!!

Had this old Mec in a box for 15 years at least. Pulled it out to switch it over to 20 Guage from 12.
Found 90% of the parts in the box, switched them over, BUT, now it seems to hang up about halfway down.
The mainshaft is true and clean, the parts all seem to be doing there job, but something just keeps dragging!! And it seemed to get worse as I messed with it???
Going to a gun show in Ellwood City Pa, tomorrow to scrounge for parts, thought I would get some advice here first.
Thanks,
Gene

No expert, but have had one for the last thirty years. Is the "hangup" with or without a shell in the primer punch/sizing station? If it is, it's the normal sizing pressure on the brass as the die pulls out.

AHHA!
Looking closer,I see I need a 20 guage wad tamper. It wasn't in the box. It fits right through the metal, but when you put the plastic bushing in, it hangs up on it.
I just popped the bushing out, and am being careful placing the wad for the weekend.
Works fine now.

Gene, if you want speed without spending a small fortune on a P&W (they are probably worth it), get a MEC 9000G. I bought one about three years ago. I have loaded over 40,000 shells on it without a problem. I can load 450 shells an hour pretty easily. It sizes in the operation so the shells will work in any gun you have and you do not have do it separately or seperate shells for each gun. Overall, I have not seen a better press for twice the money.

It hangs up with NO shells in it!

Now wait Joe, Mec has sold a ton of these things for 30 years! Your saying they are a headache? I see they are only $100 new for the model I have, hardly worth selling if it will free up. I would guess mine is busted from neglect more than quality?
I will check into the ones you are talking about, I like speed, and the old Mec does not have that!
Thanks for the input.

Papa Joe,
You have a web site on that unit? I did a little searchin, and came up a bunch of shut down pages.

Right now, that big FREE sign over the old Mec is real nice!!
But if I start shooting again, no way and am spending hours to load 10 minutes of shells!

Don't get 'em in a bunch, Gene #ad
I yanked on a Mec for several years. Sounds like you found the ailment.
Suggestion... ... check around to find where you can observe a PW demonstration. Yup, they're expensive, but quite the unit.

Cheers, Joe #ad

Well, I got my $14. 80 of parts ordered.

I also have checked a bunch of sites on that P&W unit. Nothing will open up. I think it is a MEC conspiracy.
