Smarty vs. Catcher

Smarty CR is ready.

I fabbed up kind of a "cold air intake" for the 1st gen trucks with some help froma another member. Removes the stock air box and replaces it with a aluminum heat shield and huge 6"x9" life time washable filter. Uses the stock turbo intake tube. He has tested it on his personal driver and loves it. Is there any market for these? Any input would be great, I thought I'd try ebay...

I might be interested, if it isnt too pricey. I'm not agianst the concept of profit, just dont think it would be worth a lot to me. I'm pretty handy with metal working and the like.

What kind of filter is it? I live in a dusty region, coupled with REALLy fine dust. K&N didnt work- 3 of them failed to filter. have yet to try aFe PG7, though it is supposed to be equal to paper for filtration.

Might also post a link in the 1st Gne forum. lot of guys go there and not much anywhere else, myself included.

Sounds similar to an intake that was floating around a couple years ago..... I forget who made them, however. I might be interested also if the price isn't too terrible.

The filter is made by MAC racing, they have been into street bikes for years. My old 78 KZ had MAC filters on it. It's pretty much a K&N with out the name. Member MLKramer did some real world testing and was very pleased with it. I can sell them to TDR members for a reduced price, I have sold a few on ebay already and you can check them out there if you would like to see some pics. Believe me... I'm not gettin rich off this. I don't even own a 1st gen! I started prototyping the filter when I owned one a few years back, but ended up selling the truck before I finished/installed it. Then just by chance I was chatting with another member about the limited availability and the high price of 1st gen filters so I dug it out and we finished it up. I mostly did it to help him out, but it's kinda fun to tinker with it too. And if I can make a buck or two that's fine with me also.

Not out to start a war here, but I hope they filter a little better than K&N. See here. The pic is DIRT, no oil included. I had wiped the insde to show the contrast.
