I keep hearing about a 2018 update for the Cummins....is there any new info out there? I've looked....seems pretty quiet.

The latest rumor going around is that the 2018 will have a Cummins power upgrade....not a cosmetic upgrade. * There were rumors the new power train would be displayed at the Chicago auto show, but it wasn't. * Haven't heard anything since then other than photos of Cummins test mules running around Colorado.....

There will be an engine update... Cummins has dropped the Interact System and developed new controls to meet the new emissions standards that went in effect January 1. (FCA is using the current engine under a loophole - engines built prior to January 1 2017 can still be installed until they run out, so FCA likely stockpiled them for the 2017 model year run.) Some spyshots over the last few months hinted at a hood scoop similar to what GM has added on Silverado/Sierra HDs for 2017's new Duramax. There may also be minor tweaks to exterior details and interior features.

The all-new truck is likely still a couple years away. Once the 1500 is fully moved to Sterling Heights, they will gut and rebuild Warren for the new HD as well as the Grand Wagoneer. Since there is an expectation that Warren will build the current 1500 simultaneously with the new one as a fleet model for up to a year, Warren may not shut down for its rebuild until late 2018 or early 2019. That would make the new HD a mid-year 2020 model or an early 2021 model around January 2020. Once Warren is up and running, Saltillo gets shut down for its conversion, although that is expected to be for US/Canada overflow work and Mexico sales.

It doesn't look good for FCA as a business. IMO Sergio is the typical cutthroat corporate buisiness man looking to maximize profits on the short term at the expense of the companies long term health. Spinning off Ferrari, FIAT Industrial/Commercial Vehicles and CNH into standalone companies has left the remainder of the company (FCA) without a cushion to land on when those individual markets are in a slump. They have all but eliminated their small passenger car segment while the rest of the industry is using that line to expand on future technology. Tech that eventually gets implemented in all platforms across the board. The only thing FIAT seems to be focusing on is building bigger and badder V8's to shoehorn into every possible car and SUV which I am all for, but in reality is such a small percentage of the market and is only living for the moment. The Ram platform refresh has been delayed at least twice now as mentioned above the retooling of plants to build the trucks hasn't even begun yet. By the time an HD refresh comes along the truck will be a decade old meanwhile both Ford and GM are in the process of releasing their new models. The refresh is likely not going to push diehard Ram CTD purists like us into another brand but when you add it to the big picture FCA's future does not look good to say the least. Sergio has been moonlighting the other manufacturers for the last 2 years while simultaneously crossing off the days on his calendar to his 2018 retirement date. Me thinks he sees the writing on the wall.
