may enter my truck in some local truck pulls ...

county fairs ... etc,

no strict rules enforcement ... no cash prizes

how high is the hitch supposed to be?

anyone got any advice ...

the hitch will double for use around the farm, you know freinds with stuck 'strokes ;), tailgating deterent

have welders (ac - dc - mig - tig) at my disposal

and three freinds that are machinists (sp?)

sooooo ... .

if you could have the ultimate hitch made what would it look like?

Rex, your not the only one wanting to build a hitch a local welder/fab'er has built a few but i havent talked to him while so im not sure what im going to do.

Most of the time they just say the max hitch height, and must be a reese style

I would also recommend plate's that mount on the side of the frame rails for some added strenght aswell

Here's some pic's of the hitch on my pulling truck. I started with solid stock to go into the reciever and used a weld on, adjustible pintle hitch trailer tongue ring and track. I offset mine a half inch from center so that I can move it in half inch incriments (sp?) up and down. Then I added gussets to the sides to help stabilize it and distribute the weight better. I had to barely torch out the inside of the ring so I can get a whole 3-1/2 inches front to back, and then cooled it in oil to keep from loosing proper temperance and tensile strength.

As far as rules go , they generally run 26" hitch heigth and you can't brace it any farther than the factory mounting brackets go (although they seldom check that out). Hope this helps.

here is mine, Ive got it to bolt up to the Pintle hitch plate, its 24" to the top of the hitch when bolted on

thanks for all the replys guys ... good ideas one and all

Partsman i am gonna tie it further back onto the frame and plate it somehow ...

i just welded up a new rear bumper, kinda like a roll pan only made out of 1/4

" plate tied into the frame with 3" channel, welded a hitch into the bottom of it nice and flush, tied it back into the factory hitch side plates (the middle cut out) ... 120 lbs weighed on the bathroom scale

so ... 26 inches high hunh?

got a freind with cnc machine that owes me a favor ...

can see it now

i'm gonna walk in with a piece of 1" plate ...

"cut me a 4 inch hole outta here ... don't ask just do it"

I kinda like the idea of stacks and under bed exhaust- you could use a cut out from a marine application and put the smoke down low for the tailgaters.....

80Hp gain and 50 style points :-laf

I just set the stacks in to see how they would look on the truck. they are now CPolings (we turned them upside down and welded together (check his readers rigs pics out!! they turned out sweet) But I will be stacked someday... . just for now its the 6" sidepipe

Ian

what a dork, 3 tips!!! :-laf i think the one out the back is bigger than the stacks :-laf , sorry ian, i couldnt resist :D

would a pintle hitch work?? latch it down and it wont open so could i uwe that? or do you have to have a ring.
