Since installing my Edge Comp the black smoke is starting to stain the bed of my truck behind the tailpipe(white truck). Is there any reason I don't ever see diesel exhaust ran out the back under the rear bumper like a gas truck?

I've seen one pick with "gasser style pipes" out the back. You'll look like every other truck tho. :)

THere is a low pressure area behind the truck, the whole tailgate would be soot covered. The angled exit trys to get it into the airflow and away from the truck.

Ditto, when I was 16 I had an old GMC that burned oil real bad... the tailgate was ALWAYS covered... :-laf

Besides that you wouldn't want to blow all that soot on anything you were towing...

Had a gasser with that type exhaust and when pulling trailers it was really loud in the cab. You would not be able to keep the spare or might have a problem with the bend over the axle ( I might be wrong on these two though).

Soot

SOOT and more SOOT.....

Invest in some serious cleaning products. You will have SOOT all over your tailgate, rear window and tail lights. Look at the back of any Mercedes, Volkswagon Diesel. Major PITA...

I have had a couple Mercedes and VW Diesels. I was constantly cleaning the SOOT off the rear ends. It gets everywhere... .

If you pull a boat or a trailer at all... ... . You will regret it. It will get on everything. Even with "turn downs" (been there done that).

Simple Green gets it off easy enough. But it corrodes everything... .

My . 02.

I HAD duals straight out the back. I have a red truck, my tailagte was always black ... from the soot. Also when hooking up a trailer you pretty much had to shut the truck off because the exhaust would make your eyes water. I liked the way it looked, but I'd never do it on a diesel again.

i have the rip rook duals they go out at angles but i don't have a bed to soot so not sure of the coverage, but with some more fuel i could soot three lanes at once :-laf

I have a set of Rip's dual exhaust that were designed to go straight out the back. I went to a local Midas shop and had them cut them back and put 90 degree angles on there, so the exhaust comes out the sides like the old square body GM 6. 2's. I'm glad I did this and the only place I get soot is on the bumper, because I plan on putting slashed tips on after I put NW Custom flaps on.

There is a guy around town with duals out the back. White truck with a soot black tailgate…………. The worst thing is this truck has 2inch dual with stock exhaust and supper-trap mufflers I would think that supper-traps would be a bad idea on a diesel

I had duals out the back on my 04, for about a year. White truck, black tailgate. You can see te pics in my readers rigs. Since I put stacks on, the duals are going on my 96, but they will be turned out to the side. Way too much soot on the tailgate.

Just put an exhaust tip on your stock pipe. Start with it 2 inches further out than stock. If it is still marking the fender, move it out a little more. You should soon find the length that will stop the sooting.

Straight out the hood is my fave. :-laf

Stacks are my more practical fave. A lil soot ne'er hurt that much--only have to turn the truck off when standing in the bed. :p

I had the same problem so I put a 90deg end on my pipe and the smoke goes to the ground and not on my truck. It cost me about 35 bucks total to weld it on.
