Old Cars gone????

Using the system

OK, I know there is a tax expert out there... can I get any deductions for interest paid on a loan for an RV trailer?? I don't live in it, I just vacation in it. Any other deductions for the trailer available that I don't know of??

Look at page A3 of the 1040 instructions. "Interest you paid" Lines 10 and 11. Home Mogtgage Interest. . "A home may be a house, condominium, cooperative, mobile home, boat, or similar property. It must provide basic living accomodations including sleeping space, toilet, and cooking facilities. " According to this, even a Coleman pop-up would qualify. This information applies to "your main home or second home".

Here's One to Ponder!

I think we're all agreed that a MH, 5ver or TT is eligible for the "2nd or vacation home" deduction. We had quite a discussion on an RV forum, however, regarding whether the truck that pulls the 5ver or TT could be deducted - treating it as if it is the drivetrain for a motorhome, which is deductible.

I'll step back and let ya stew on that one for awhile. ;) :-laf :-laf

It sure would be nice, but I think not. Of course, if the wife throws me out, I might be sleeping in the truck, so maybe.

Ken,

I was amazed at the number of people who were deducting the truck and the 5ver - treating it as "one recreational vehicle"! I hope they never get audited!

If you were a fulltimer deducting the truck might be possible. But for the typical traveler, I don't think so. BTW, IRS says you have to stay in it 14 days per year to qualify as a second home. If you don't stay in it at least that much, you probably should get rid of it anyway.

Alternative fuel

I had a deduction for a few years on my pickup. It was a Alternative fuel vehicle..... I think it only lasted a few years though.
