A question for all you RV pullers... I need your input!

Cummins vs Duramax vs PSD

Skeet,

When were you an IP at Ft. Wolters? I took a swim in the pool March '62, just before my "vacation" in southeast asia.
Flew out of several AA non-bases in places where we "weren't".
I flew 86's in Biggs AFB in El Paso as part of the AFARR in '64.

I heard the E flights were "fun".

If you make it to North Carolina, we can pull out the 7KCAB, S2S or Baron B-55. I have a friend with a 500D we can borrow.

Bmann,
Was at Wolters spring of 67 to June of 70. Was at Southern Airways reunion few years ago and they still have the rotor blade arch at the motel pool. Ft. is now commercial, oil companys and state prison units. Th 55 area at airport is one big hay barn and Palo Pinto is storage area for 100's of mobil homes the Govt. sends in to disaster area's for temp housing. Nothing looks the same except Seybolt's "guest" ranch. Crazy Water hotel was undergoing renovation and was almost completly deserted. Not hardly a trailer park left in the area. Sure are a bunch of tractor mechanics out of work in that area. Remember following a bunch of marked telephone poles into and out of your parking area at Main Heliport?
My instructor in helicopters in Tulsa was AA. His first name was Ernie something. Will have to dig out the old books and get his full name.

Bmann,
Name just came to me. Instructors name was Ernie Nelson. 'bout 6-2 and 220. Got the impression he got home with enough Au to make a couple of fine watchs or whatever.
Seems all these grey hairs have slowed the remembering process a bit. Think that is possible?

Skeet,

Sorry I missed you. I was there and gone long before you got there.
I'm sure the place has changed.
Did you know a Jim Milne or Buddy Cannon?
Buddy never found out that he could be killed in one of those strange flying machines. Lost five birds without getting a scratch.
He went AA after his second tour.
Jim got shot up twice and is now growing old in Roanoke, Virginia.
I decided to stay YOUNG. #ad

A lot of good men went through Ft. Wolters.
Many didn't come home.

To "Better Times".

Happy New Year!!!

Just thought I would throw this back to the front of the board in case some of the newer members didn;t see it and wanted to jump onboard

Don' Fly anymore!!!!!!

I used to fly. but decided I was just too absent minded. I kept forgetting little things--=like switching tanks before the engine quit. That would really wake my wife up, the yelling hurt my ears also.

I would accasionally land and realize I was going pretty fast and think; oh yea those little flappy things on the wings shouldn't be sticking straight back.

I was the victim of mechanical dirty tricks a couple of times--like both fuel tanks in a Piper 180 showing empty when I "knew" I had enough fuel. Turned out to be faulty sender on the tank that did have fuel.

Once comming in from a fun session of arobatics in a Citabria I spaced out and landed about 20 feet in the. Man was that a bounce. . The joker in the tower came on the radio and said "... you were cleared to land, not for a touch and go"

Another day comming in in an old (I think 11946) Interstate tail dragger, I got to admiring the bright yellow Air West on the taxi way and ground looped that sucker ALL OVER that runway.

Well you get the picture... ... . finally decided I should leave the airplane driving to someone who could keep their mind on what they were doing.

Vaughn,
I tried out the runway pinwheels in a D-18 Beechcraft (Col. Killer) at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kan. Had been snowing and icy there for a couple of days. Tower said the runway was dry. I reguested a runway check while inbound and they sent a car down the runway to check braking. 3 loops and a snowbank later, all came to a stop. #ad
Took 2 days to dig the A/C out of the snowbank. Flt. Eval. Board hung tower operator. Seems he didn't actually make a check.
Yep, there are times that you transition from pilot to passenger in a big hurry and you don't even have to change seats! #ad

Skeet

Skeet,

You sure didn't ground loop it on brakes. As I recall the D18 didn't have any. #ad

Flew one for three years at Virginia Tech.
GREAT plane.

Bmann,
The AF C-45 always seemed to have brakes. Only problem, it was usually on just one of the mains. One grabbed and the other floated and it never seemed to be the same wheel two times in a row. They meant it when they said you have to fly it from chocks to chocks!
Always thought that the "Super" D-18 that was converted to Tri-gear would be a dream. Sat in on a couple of sessions in "Howard". Talk about a flying tail dragger, that was one.

My name is Eric Pitts I am a private pilot, Have been a member of Indiana Air National Guard for 21 years. Most of my flying was in a 150 or a PA-28 180. Although I did get to fly an F4E one time. Waiting for a chance in a F-16D.
