Pacbrake - two thumbs up

Nitrous install

try a search, someone just put a piers cam on and had great results. Even had other members drive the pickup, again with great results. I'm saving up for a cam and head replacement.

Lawrence and I are very happy with the DD cam. I can't think of anything else I would do, even for top power in the rpm range we use, with a streetable cam.

From the info I've gathered....

DD cam has a 40% faster spool up than stock

DD cam has 40% more air flow than stock

DD cam also has a lobe for a mechanical fuel pump and a couple of other goodies.

Piers cam has a 30% faster spool up than stock

Piers cam has 30% more air flow than stock

Piers cam comes with reground lifters

DD cam is around $1500. 00

Piers cam is around $575. 00

Does anyone have a DD cam setup?

Is the extra 10% worth around $1000. 00

I'm a firm believer in getting your money out of all the research and development but, wouldn't you get your R&D back much faster by lowering your prices and selling in volume. ( Basic economics )

Depends on what you have in the package you are selling. Go price a new 12v Marine cam, the bolt, collar, key and a new set of lifters. I bet you're over $500 right there... not to mention the R&D and regrinding we do.

Well Keith,

As you can see from my sig. I like DD products, I quess I'm trying to justify the extra $1000. 00 for the 10% difference. I'm also looking for some input from someone with a DD cam in a 24v engine... There seems to be alot of guys buying Piers setup.

True, a lot of guys are buying the PDR setup... it's cheaper so easier to get for the masses. Bottom line, we've got almost as much IN our kit as what he sells his for, and that's just parts.

Speed costs, how fast do you want to go?

Package deal?

Why didn't you say so.

Enterprise can jerk that baby out, and you'll have a complete Cummins race engine when they are done.

You won't need that happy gas... ... ... .

IMHO, You may as well get the Piers cam, as it is very reasonably priced, take your savings and put them aside, for future BOMBs, when you are ready to tear the engine the whole way down. Then you can get a real cam.

What's the DD cam made of? Probably billet steel, not cast iron. Thats one reason for the higher price, it's far from $575 regrind special. For $1500 bucks or so... . PDR can also get you a billet stick. 6000rpm's no problem. ;)

The DD cam starts as a new marine cam where the PDR cam is a reground factory cam. Regardless I will be going with a PDR cam when the time comes. I personally can't justify the DD price but like Keith says speed=money.

I Agree.....

The DD cam is seductive but, the price of it will pull you back out of the Ether.

I'm heavily leaning toward the PDR Cam.

i have installed the dd cam. it is a little tricky to get it but you can install it your self if you got the proper tools. but i don't think it is worth the money did not feel like it boosted the hp that much what i did notice is a lot less smoke, a slightly quicker spool up, exh temp went way down wont go over 1300 deg at WOT and pulling hard. i lost10 lbs of boost. don't know why. and no gain on mpg. it cost $1500. 00 and i think if it was me i would spend the money on a set of twins.

So both cams are reground cummins sticks, one for a boat one for a pickup. Is the marine cam stronger or hold the gear on in a better way?

DD Vs PDR ???

From what I have read the PDR would have have it. Is 10% really worth the $1000. 00 extra? Man with that money you could you could buy__________/? More than what you would lose in the 10%. OverFuled

No the DD cam is not reground as it starts with a "virgin" cam that hasn't been ground to begin with. So DD grind is the first. Also I believe the marine cam is Forged versus Cast for the stocker. If I am wrong with this then please correct me.

Evil Otto,

Neither DD or PDR claim any HP improvements. The benefits are lower EGT's, quicker spoolup, and less smoke. They really benifit those with really large singles or twins.
