I use a couple of gis type apps on my iphone and it would really be nice to see the phone screen on the truck dash display. Truck is a brand new (32 miles) 2014, 2500 crew cab, Cummins with leather and sat radio activated, phone synced and I've installed the Uconnect phone app allowing for remote unlock, start and other things through the phone. This is a company truck and evidently it doesn't have navigation. Hard to believe with everything else it has.

I digress, anyone have a tip on the iphone screen on the dash question?

Tks

Try this site, here is my 07 C&C NAV with Dashcommand, although a lot more complicated then just mirroring an iPhone.

RVTRKN, Wow, that pretty much sums my reaction up. And yep the package you linked would work. I looked a year or so ago and did stumble onto the LOCKPIC. Only issue at that time it was $350ish or so. Was hoping a less expense option was available, but it would certainly work. Thanks for the link.

Here are the links that make up my complete system. It started out, to just allow me to have an aux jack for my very expensive REC NAV option for my 07 C&C, you'd think that Dodge would have had an aux jack incorporated into it. The Lockpick I linked to, was the first accessory I installed, and I quickly found out the video input was an awesome option with the Lockpick. Then I had a couple of CEL's pop up on my dash that cost me a few dollars for reading them at the dealer, turned out to be a bad battery causing it. So I wanted a code reader that could delete them as well, so I ordered a Kiwi wifi II (www.kiwiwifi.com) and in order to use it you must download an App, in which I chose the Dashcommand App. (http://www.palmerperformance.com) Once I downloaded the App and explored the other functions that come with Dashcommand I found that the App had video out capabilities and displayed the iPhone screen on my NAV. Soooo, I started exploring the PLX modules and ended up installing a Boast, EGT, and a couple of fluid temperature and a pressure sensor modules. http://www.dashxl.net/dashboard.php?dashboard=557

All of the gauges you see with the last link, http://www.dashxl.net/dashboard.php?dashboard=557, are fully operational and was designed specifically for me. I elected to have the "Skins" downloadable to anybody who wanted to use them. It cost me a few dollars to have developed, but I think its worth allowing anyone to download them. I spent a $1000.00 after it was all complete, but keep in mind what a quality Gauge Set and Code Reader would cost, and with 6 gauges where would you put them all. The NAV screen is my gauge pod, so I don't have gauges all over my dash and in my way.

BTW, if you purchase a Lockpick, buy it from the developer. I had a couple of issues when installing it and the first question from the developer, was "where did I purchase it". They had to send me two different lockpicks to get it to work, and several sessions with the tech on the phone. If I had purchased it from a second party, I would have not gotten the support I needed. I have an airbag warning light pop up from time to time for a second or two, but it does not effect the operation of the airbag, (per my Dodge tech), and I ignore it.

Just Gauges on iOS?

RVTRKN,

Thanks for your posts, and I have a few questions and comments. I ran six gauges across the dash of my last diesel pickup, but I'm going to avoid that with my '14 Ram Tradesman (G56) and run some type of OBDII/digital reader to limit the installation, hassle, look, etc.

The Edge or Banks iQ have my interest, their backup camera would be a nice feature, but primarily I'd just like to be able to read the closest/hottest OE EGT sensor and boost. I'm a Mac/iOS guy and would probably like to use my iPhone or iPad mini for this if they work well and reliably.

Several months ago I purchased the DashCommand app (for other rigs) but never purchased a quality/expensive bluetooth or WiFi OBDII port accessory, the cheap ones I tried didn't work and I stopped trying.

At SEMA I spoke with the Palmer Performance guys and they recommended the PLX Kiwi WiFi or the GoPoint bluetooth. Seems you've had good luck with the Kiwi Wifi, do you still like using it? One reason to avoid bluetooth might be some incoming phone call interference I just read about?

Sounds like all I need is to figure out what OBDII port/reader device works with my iPhone and I should be in business with DashCommand?

Will DashCommand display EGT from the OE sensor without your custom skin (though your skin looks great if it works on an iPhone)?

Is this what you’re using?

It's expensive to do what I did, even if you don't get the lock pick. Just to see it on your apple product, be it iPad or iPhone, or your droid phone, you have to buy the Kiwi wifi and adaptor, then you have to buy the individual modules to see the temps pressures and EGT. If you want to know more you can PM me. This picture of my Skin was developed for me at a cost, but I elected to make it available to all for free. It is worth every penny I spent on the entire system.

The lock pick is for your OE screen right? I have a Tradesman and no setup or interest in doing an in-dash display.

I'll send you a PM, as I'm interested in getting the gauges on my iOS devises unless it makes more sense to buy a Edge or similar.

Thanks

OK, you can resend the PM, my mailbox is empty. If my truck was new and under warranty, I would not install an Edge product. I would worry about it leaving a footprint on the ECM, and the only way I would install it would be to have it in writing that they would honnor the warranty if Dodge flaged my vehicle. BUT THAT IS ME. I originally started the project because I was getting tired of having to run down to the Dealer to find out why I was getting check engine lights. It cost me time and money, only to find out the passenger side battery was weak and was causing the codes. I ordered the Kiwi Wifi because of the cost and ability verses a quality DTC code reader. I found out that it would mirror onto the OEM NAV screen. That started me down the rabbit hole, knowing I didn't have to buy pillars and install clumsy gauges all over my dash. Its not for everyone, but you can install a phone cradle on your dash and have all the information at your finger tips. BTW, the new lighting plug that replaced the plugs on the iPods/iPhones after the introduction of the iPhone 5's, and will not display the video for anolog for Audio/Video plugs, if you want it to mirror onto your NAV screen. Also, my NAV is the OEM "REC" nav/radio for the 3rd Gen trucks.
