I recently converted my truck to a P7100. Before I had the smarty and it had a high idle feature for warming up. I am wondering if there is something obviously mechanical maybe something you pull to up the idle . Just wondering if anyone with the P Pump trucks have anything.

Is there a way of installing a cable pull throttle lock on linkage. Had one on a big truck and used is as a make shift cruise control on the road and could do the same thing that your looking at to raise the RPM a little so oil and fuel would be raised also at warn up

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Must be something to use.

On the earlyer chevys they had a decelerator solenoid that would hold a higher idle rpm when slowing down. They had a 12 volt and a vaccum operated one. If possible find a 12 volt its easyer to hook up. This is what I have and it works great with about 1100 r's. when high idle is engaged.

When I had my gm's these things drove me nuts so I took them off, and I still have them.

I think A&W Direct has what you're looking for. Its a cable with a locking knob that you pull and lock at desired rpm.

this kinda looks good. cheap and 2 seconds to install. no wiring no mounting. pull it out and throw it on the back seat

I have something like that from my O/OP days same thing but a little bigger for the clutch peddle so one could depress the peddle and get under to adjust

I use a 3/8" diameter wood dowel rod placed between the bottom of the accelerator pedal and the bottom of the power adjustable driver seat. I activate the seat to acheive the desired RPM. The same result could be done using my power adjust pedals. It works great in the summer when running the A/C to keep the weenie dog cool when I'm away from the truck for a few minutes. :D

I'm trying to come up with a cruise control servo operated fast idle.

MHannick and I have been picking away at it.

Time has been a scarce item right now, but come spring I will get back to it.

I am going to make it as simple as setting the parking brake to arm it, then one increase/decrease rocker switch to raise/lower rpm.

I will get to it, I promise...

I'll be looking forward to seeing that. Keep me posted. QUOTE=mwilson;2273878]I'm trying to come up with a cruise control servo operated fast idle.

mechanical pump fast idle....

The first gen trucks had a hand throttle... fast idle was achieved by: (1) use pedal to raise engine speed to 1200RPM, (2) pull & rotate throttle handle, (3) release pedal... granted, that collection of parts is likely no longer available from dealer, but that is what junkyards are for... plus, it keeps the truck interior sanitarily-Dodge (my overarching-goal).

the cable is entirely within the cab, serves to keep pedal from fully-returning to idle...

I think folks using it as a crude cruise control caused that to go away...

But, as I recall the cable simply through the top of the fuel pedal rocker just above the throttle cable connection. That might be an option on a 2nd gen if there is material enough there.

Will have a look next time I service the old girl.

I think you are correct about why it was discontinued... but doesn't seem too desirable to use as a "poor-man's-cruise-control" as in un-modified (un-molested?) form it held 1100RPM only... .
