From 69 to 76, my brother and I were a fixture on the NHRA circuit. Dad has got 6 or so "Golden Racers" as we liked to call them. I remember hanging out in the pits with people like The Snake, Shirley, Penzoil Ed, and lots of others. Looking back, it was a hell of a lot better than summer camp!

Dads ride was a 68 VW Ghia that held either the I or M Gas records all the way up to 76. We attended a Bug-In reunion back in April where we got to see the car for the first time since 76... . someone had bought and restored it to how it was when he sold it. Too bad there's not enough room for a B series in it... . :-laf

Wow another comp racer; the old Gas classes are now one of the center points of what is now competition eliminator. They now are called altered, and a few people still run the Volkswagen in the dragster class, namely Michelle Costa.

I have two “WALLIES “as they are now called in honor of Wally Parks. I really like what you are doing with your truck, and unlike some other that continue to chide me; you are out doing it, not talking about it. Talk is cheep. I can’t wait to race another diesel, it will be great competition. Keep up the work, it will pay off. Greg Hogue Comp 461

Yep, Dad raced Buicks extensively from the 60s through to his death last year. He ran in the stock class wars of the 60s. And then competed in the Buick vs Ford wars of the late 80s and early 90s. I've been racing for 22 years myself. And I've brought both of my boys up going to the races. I don't think I ever even went out on a Saturday night during racing season while I was growing up. I was too busy running the points races.

My dad raced in the late 60's. He drove a 63 dodge with a 426 max wedge called the Blue Goose. From what I remember he never ventured farther then LA and Arizona from San Diego. Fun Times.

This is a pic of my latest toy.

I wish I'd been a race-kid! I feel like I'm coming from behind running with all these guys who started in Junior dragsters and the like...

426 Max Wedge? Now there's something you don't see every day! My sister and her hubby had a dog named Max Wedge. Mopar or no car! :D

heres my old race car - sold it to my uncle (not a diesel fan like me)

So you could say I was sniffing 110 octane since I was knee high

i spent many days at maple grove and english town in PA

Dad and his buddys ran pro stock in the late 60's and early 70's

he ran with socks & martin, old grumpy jenkins, he was there when Big daddy broke the 200mph.

thats in the day when you ran against the national record, dad set it a few times back then, but that was some hard drag racing!!!

302's, 283's and 327's 9500+ rpm's with cast cranks and stock rods etc.

nothing like it is today!!!
