I just saw that old Steven Spielberg movie called DUEL about some guy being chased by an OLD Peterbilt all over the back roads of CA. Pretty cool movie. If you like Trucks (This is the TDR, right?) its worth checking out. No where near the budget of Jurassic Park, but worth a look. Makes me wonder what people think when they see a Ram behind them.

I believe that Speilberg made Duel as a senior project while still at UCLA. Shades of what was to come. That poor old Plymouth was really beat.

Yes, Dennis weaver was the poor guy being chased in the Plymouth. They actually listed the truck driver in the credits at the end. Kinda strange since you NEVER see anything more then his boots and a dark silhouette.

rich off on one of his famous tangents

Back in the early 70's, Mick Jagger was touring(?) the Playboy mansion, and upon opening one door, was surprised to see Mr. Hefner "giving it to" Dennis Weaver. He then was heard to exclaim, "HEY, HUGH GET OFFA McCLOUD!"

sorry, guys, couldn't resist!

NOTE: If you have not seen "Duel" and you plan on renting the video, do not read the paragraph below, because it gives away the ending.

I watched Jaws recently on DVD, a "collector's edition" with additional footage, a "making of Jaws" show, comments by Steven Speilberg, etc.

At the end of Duel, when the truck goes over the cliff, you will hear a muffled groaning sound. At the end of Jaws, when the shark starts to sink after Roy Scheider blows him up, you will hear the exact same groaning sound. Steven Speilberg said he put that sound therethere on purpose, because the ending of Jaws reminded him of the ending of Duel.

Oh yeah, one of my most favorite movies! I'm 28,but remember seeing this movie when it came out in,what,78? Anybody remember 'The Car'? How about Convoy? Now there's a truck movie!

I can't believe the sheltered life some people live. My wife had never seen Duel before until we watched it on the satellite recently. Then again she never saw a Star Wars or a Cheech and Chong movie until she met me either! She relly dug Smokey and the Bandit for the first time too a few months ago!

Convoy was a classic. I have looked EVERYWHERE for it and cant find it. Nobody seems to sell it on DVD or VHS, or am i just living in a vacum. Anybody know a website that sells it?

Funny thing, I was headed up 395 to Bishop to join a crew working on the hydros, this old ratty Pete was on my a$$ so I repeatedly moved over but he never passed... he was close and the Toyota had no more. Upon arriving at the hotel I took a shower and kicked back with a cold one, turned on the T. V. and you guess it Duel was on! LIFE ROCKS!

My favorite "trucking" movie is Maximum Overdrive.

Lousy movie, but a girl (waitress) I graduated High School with gets shot up by the machine gun!

Another movie you might want to check out is "Blackdog" with Patrick Swazey.

Lots of smash-em bash-em driving in this one.

Think it's still in Blockbuster...

Outstanding movie. The chase footage shot from the back of the car of the truck was outstanding. The movie came out in 1971.

The driver of the truck was a stunt man called "RED" He has appeared in several movies. Just like others, I had a old truck following me up an interstate in New York state. He would slow down on hills and speed up on the down side. Never tried to pass me, just rode my A$$ every time he could. I think the truck driver saw the movie too. That way for about 100 miles.

:) Is Maximum Overdrive the movie with all of the semi's next to each other, they smoke like bombed Dodge/Cummins';) and drive by theirself? I've seen parts of this movie but I now want to watch all of it. You guys are making me want to watch big rig movies instead of being on the TDR Forums.

Maxximum overdrive is when there is a bunch of trucks with no drivers driving in a circle around the gas station, and yes, lots of smoke. Great movie.
