My local muffler guy talked me into dumping my stock muffler and resonator and going with a Magnaflow muffler. Its a straight through muffler but its too quite, no personality. I'm thinking of going with a straight pipe and resonator. Of course my resonator is long gone by now. Anyone got a spare resonator?

I have one in my back yard that belongs to Shelby Griggs. I will ask him what he has planned for it.

If he does not want it I can get it to hermiston this weekend.

resonators

you'll probably get several responses, but if not check with me next week. i just checked mine, and it's looking very loose. it'll probably fall off this weekend. out of curiosity, has any body tried simply putting a 4" turndown where the muffler is placed to see what it sounds like--in the cab, etc. lots of medium duty trucks dump the exhaust down right after the muffler... ... . i'll probably try that first. should be able to make a turndown out of a 4" elbow pretty easily and remove the muffler and try it. i'm going to have a 66" piece of 3" pipe to try instead of the resonator and muffler, also.

Why bother?

Why bother? I run my ’01 with out resonator, muffler, turbo ring or snorkel and drive in San Francisco and the surrounding areas. I have my exhaust exit in the stock location and the truck is quite and usable as is. I just have to keep my foot out of it at the toll plaza and in Downtown SF. I Love the way my truck sounds and runs. An EZ-Comp is coming soon. :D :D :D :D :D

I have a complete 3" system off my 99. I only had to cut one pipe to get it all off intact for my 4". You can have all or any part.

All that is cut is the short piece of straight pipe that makes up the difference between a standard and a QC.

UPS delivered my 4" Jardine today!!

At the moment I'm too booked up at work to put it on this weekend. As soon as I do I'll have one for you:)

Pretty low milage on it too. Only 11k on the beast so far.

Drop me an E-mail and we can work out shipping if you can't find someone locally.

exhaust

i'll let you know next week, if noone else responds. i checked my resonator and muffler last nite, and they're looking awfully loose. imagine that and only 4. 6k miles. in order to try it, i'm going to put in a piece of 3" pipe first. if it isn't too obnoxious, i'll go back later with a complete 4" system. if i go straight piped, may dump in front of the wheel on the curb side.

put a Magnaflow 12770 on instead. it is shoter and sounds great

I put the Jardines kit on my truck and had the same problem. I replaced the 30"L muffler with one that is around 23"L and LOVE IT. :D :D

not too loud, sounds like a big rig, and not a big piece of $h1t.

I wish i could record it, and let you hear it.

Thanks for the replies. I've given this some second thoughts. I think I'm probably better off just taking the plunge and getting some 4" Jardine exhaust. After looking at the cost and trouble, its probably just better to step up to the plate and get the bigger exhaust. I appreciate the help and advice.

Come on by Dave

Dave, swing by here and I'll take you for a spin in mine, it is gutted as you know. I'll be here tomorrow afternoon. Also if you want I have a muffler/resonator sitting in my garage off Dawg-1's truck. Give ya an excuse to come by. And yes I'll help you with gauges (realized I didn't reply to your email yet. . . sorry! )

exhaust

someone(s?) stole my muffler and resonator whilst i was at work yesterday, and i never even saw it happen!! they were kind enough to put in a piece of straight pipe for me, though. the ride home was fun. boy, that sucker is LOUD under acceleration. sunds ok at a steady speed. i expect i'll have to find a muffler when i go to a 4" system. I like the tone, just not the volume. considering the bullydog system--the price is right. any thoughts appreciated.

No resinance in cab when windows up or down, my resinator has 3'' on the front and 4''out the back so I installed it direcly to the down pipe next to transmission about 4'' from floorboard on about 22* down and I put a 4x4x4 wye on that 2 pieces of s/s flex and up both sides with 4'' cooling towers, powder coated with s/s perforated heat shields tooooo cool, i'm trying to get some pics online soon, the sound is awesome you can hear turbo spool up and down, no drown no where just all music. I gotta say the stock resinator is all you need, the muffler is not oh by the way I have the 98 1/2 24 valve and as far as I know the 99 has the same exhaust at least for calif. good luck with your exhaust mods,I know I really enjoyed doing mine and it wasn't to hard either Joe Moglia

exhaust

i put the resonator back on. didn' have an adapter to go from the 4" outlet of the resonator to the tail pipe and couldn't find one on a sat pm. took a 4" turndown tip off th' rollin' redneck residence and put it on the resonator-- even nicer tone-- but still too loud for my liking? are there any 4 or 5" systems with a straight thru muffler that don't increase the volume (decibels) of the exhaust, but improve the tone, without the "drone"??
