I have heard that some insurance companies through a fit if you have a spray on bed liner installed in your pickup. I guess the worry is that if you get in an accident it will cost more money to repair your truck if it has a spray in liner. Is there any truth to this or is it just BS?

It does make sense on the more cost to repair, but your policy is a legal contract, and if it's not specifically mentioned in the exclusions, it's covered. Wouldn't suprise me if it eventually ends up in exclusions, just like mold issues have on your homeowners policy. Check with your agent.

Thats just a rumor. The company has to pay to pre accident condition & if it has a spray in liner that just part of it. Just like aftermarket items such as running boards, toppers, toolboxes etc they are all covered.

I had a Rhino Liner installed when my '99 truck was new. My first "accident" with my truck was a hard stop which sent a pallet of shingles into the front wall of the box of the truck. (The pallet stayed in place in the truck bed, it was the shingles which kept moving. )

Repairs included a new rear window in the cab of the truck, r&r the rear wall of the cab below the window, and replace the front wall of the cargo box. My insurance company did not kick about re-spraying the damaged area of the box after repairs.

It depends on your insurance company and the coverage area.

Years ago I had a custom paint job on a van. Insurance agent added a "custom" add to the policy to cover me in the case of claim. I think it added a $5 to the bill. Saved my ... rear when I had a hit & run claim.

Note this was over 15 years ago and a different state.

Best bet is to contact your agent and get claim coverage in writing.

Insurance people are one notch above politicians at keeping their verbal promises.

Change that to most insurance agents. One covered my bacon after my topper was stolen. I had removed it and stored it in the backyard to help some friends move. It was stolen from the backyard and when I tried to claim it wasn't covered. The agent filed it as a he screwed up and forgot to add it to the policy (actually the truth) and it was partially covered. Partially means less deductible and depreciation which really hurt. I couldn't find a used one at at the price they claimed was fair market value.
