Looking at getting some new speakers, but I want all of them to go behind the factory grills, including the tweeters. Anybody have experience doing this? What speakers will fit/sound good? Considering MB Quarts, Polk, Focal... but have no idea if they will fit, especially the tweeters. Local guys are no help. Thanks for any suggestions!

Stereo Bombs

There's quite a few of us on the TDR who have bombed the stereo, Chipstien is one who comes to mind right off the top of my head. I posted a load of pictures of my install in a thread a few months ago - in a rush right now but if you do a search on posts by Chipstein and myself in the P&A forum I think within the last 3 months, there is a at least one good thread with most all the information you'll need for now.

I'm sure others will chime in here too! Remember you're never too old for a loud stereo!!:D

PS: When I get a bit more time (and if you're still looking... ), I'll insert that weblink from an old thread.....

EDIT UPDATE Chipstien beat me to it! the link is later on in this thread. :D

replaced everything

I replaced all my speakers with Phoenix Digital Gold, not too bad priced and sounds very good with the alpine deck and rockford ams. Everything fit perfectly into the stock spaces.

did the 4 main speakers.

Got Boston Acoustics. good price and good construction.

I want to get a amp for it and disconnect the 2 puny amps on the front main speakers. They can be retroed to the new speakers and sound ok... . but an amp is def. the way to go at least.

Here's the thread that John was talking about. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=69356&highlight=stereo

As far as replacing the stockers... . obviously the door speakers are a piece of cake. If you are into modifying the tweeter pod then that can be done too. I personally am not aware of tweets that will drop into the factory tweeter location without modifications but that does not mean they don't exist. Just something to ponder, any quality aftermarket speaker is going to produce way more highs than the factory tweeters. So using the stock pod may produce enough highs to blindside you. JMHO. Good luck. :)

Did any of you guys put round speakers in the front doors? If so did you fabricate a mount or does someone make a mount?

Thanks Mike

I used 6. 5" in the door... . actually all doors. Just used 1/4" plywood or equivalent, 1/8 inch plexiglass would work great for this, and cut it so it would bolt in place of the 6x9. Then just cut out the hole for a 6. 5 and your good to go. I should have took pics but unfortunately forgot.
