Today I noticed a newer Ram 2500 with the stock aluminum

rims (4x4) and nicely proportioned tires. Closer inspection

revealed them to be 305 70's. Looked nice and wide but not

too tall.

Anyone running this size have any comments on tire wear

and speedometer accuracy changes?

I'm still running my original Michellin LTX A/S LT265/75R16E's.

26,000 miles and still have tons of tread left.

Chris,

I ran 305 70's on 8" wide rims. The 8" wide rim are the min. width rim that is recommended for the 305's. I would recommend a 10" wide rim. With the 8" the tread is cupped out in the middle, you have to reduce the tire pressure so you don't wear out the center. I ran 38 to 42# in front and 28 to 32# in rear and still wore the center of the tire out.

That very well could have been me..... I have been all over TX the last 2 weeks, and I do mean ALL over. From Marshall, Houston, Dallas, San Antone, Lubbock... ..... Anyway, the 305/70's fit nicely on the stock rim. When the tire salesman started pushing them on me, I thought they would be WAY too big. Not the case, I think they look very good and seem to be wearing very well. I have them rotated at every oil change. The tire rep said I should get about 60-70k with the highway miles that I run. I have 42# in the rear and 48# in the front. As far as the speedometer, it reads about 2mph slower than actual. If I figured it correctly, these new tires should only be about 5cm larger in diameter than the stock tires.

Thanks for the replies. When I go tire shopping next year,

at the rate mine are wearing, I'll probably go with something

larger than stock but not a lot taller overall.

LK, the truck I looked at was a silver QC SB 4x4 in Conroe,

TX parked at the Cinco de Mayo restaurant parking lot on the

evening of 7/24.

Chris,

When I left Dallas for Houston, it had already been a long day. My truck is silver, but it's a long bed & I don't remember eating at a 5th of May restaraunt... ... . but that doesn't mean anything, I have a short memory. I bought the truck 8 months ago, and I have already put on 61k as of today. I can't even remember the last state I fueled up in.
