of the valve cover?? I understand there's some type of breather under there... does it need to be cleaned? re-routed?
 
There is a catch system for crank-case blow-by oil there with a tube which already routes the air (minus more of the oil than on 2nd Gen trucks) down the back of the block. Some have extended that tube to get the oil smell and fume plume further from the cab... but that's about all you might want to do.
 
Not to be snotty here but I echanged my oil in my 93 every 3k and never had any sludge. I assume if it did have any it would collect in the top of the rocker cover?
 
This is going to be one of the first things I investigate when I get my Ram. I would like to get rid of the cheesy plastic thingy. I'm not a fan of Plastic Fantastic!

or instead of chrome, painted to match body color or accent color [i don't like chrome on anything other than wheels]
