OK - this really looks neat... ..... I have the need to have something like this for the back of my pickup shell for my dogs... ... looks like it should work pretty well for a couple of hours - thoughts??????

12 Volt Air Conditioning KoolerAire

watch the video... ...

BTW - how long will this run on a tytpical deep style battery???????

I attended a church that used the same principal: make a big tub of ice all week, then blow air across the ice on Sunday. That is probably overly simplistic, but that was how it was explained to me.

I think a deep cycle battery would run that fan for 12-24 hours, maybe longer.

It looks like it would take a couple of bags of ice to make a few hours of cold air, but it doesn't look bad to me.

I can't find the post, but I thought someone asked a similar question last summer. I think the biggest question mark is whether this product will keep dogs cool. I think it was in that previous post, but there are certain products that don't work for dogs. I think it has to do with how dogs cool themselves by panting, which is made less efficient as more moisture is introduced into the air. There was some debate about the issue, as I recall, but you definitely want all the information before you trust the lives of your furry friends to this product. If anyone else remembers, help me out here.

T, I remember that post and after seeing time and time again people leaving pets in the car at the mall and such (Some dead) I just cannot be a fan of "cooking" your dog.

On a lighter note a buddy who is an electrical contractor has one in his E-350 Grummand body and keeps it between the seats and says it really takes the edge off. WORST case scenereo is that it keeps the gatorade cool AND helps the cabin out too. He said "I spent $50 on waaayyy worse things and this one won't kill me or P. O my Neighbors" :-laf

I remember years ago when I was changing a clutch in my 1970 Daodge Dart..... it was so hot and stuffy in the garage I put a few frozen gallon milk jugs in front of a fan... . it kept the edge off. :-laf:-laf but not much more.

Phoenix Ballpark and downtown buildings are cooled by ICE

I saw a TV show on this... ... can't remember which one... ...

APS Energy Services Announces: Bank One Ballpark Cooling Downtown Phoenix; Diamondbacks Home will be Part of Innovative District Cooling System. | North America > United States from AllBusiness.com

Ice storage works by producing air conditioning ahead of the moment of need. The cooling district will use an ice-based chiller system to manufacture 3 million pounds of ice each night when utility loads and rates are lowest. During peak periods, the ice will be melted through an underground distribution network for use in air-conditioned buildings.

The water then is returned to the icemaker for reconditioning. Bank One Ballpark, for example, will reduce its electrical demand by 40 percent because it no longer will have to maintain its own cooling equipment.

Here's another option:

Arctic Air (Large, 12 volt) - Sporty's Pilot Shop

I haven't flown with one... yet. Summer flying in a Cessna 172 can be brutal. I have read where this does a great job at cooling the cockpit. Kinda pricey, but with aircraft air conditioning systems robbing power and costing over $20K, it's not so bad. The 12V version might be just the trick for keeping the bed area cool. Good Luck.

HMMmmm - a yardsale cooler chest - a $20 marine bilge pump - a transmission cooler, and a large 12 volt muffin fan - a little ice, and you're in business! ;):-laf:-laf

saw a post where a guy built one like that for a Xcountry trip in a tiger but didn't see a follow up on how it did though
