Got one on mine. Very handy for one-handed opening, when you have a heavy or bulky object in hand, and now don't have to put it down, before opening the gate.

I like this one: http://www.hemitruckclub.com/easylift.htm

The advantages over the EasyDown:

1) Hidden. Absolutely no bed space is used.

2) Helps with both opening and closing.

Potentional disadvantages relative to EasyDown:

1) The EasyLift makes the tailgate act like it weighs a lot less, but it you still need to keep one hand on it while it lowers. I haven't used the EasyDown, but I would suspect it might do a soft lowering without you having to guide it down.

2) The EasyLift install is more difficult. You do have to remove the tailgate and put it back. It's a two man job.

Have had mine since early summer and it works great. Pull the tailgate handle and let go-the tailgate comes down slowly on its own.

Thanks for posting your question..... It reminded me to install mine last night... ... . Here's my initial impressions.

1. Super easy install and very good directions in the package and also on the web.

2. Tailgate comes down very gently as described.

3. First thing I didn't like was the safety cable on the drivers side has to be held in place or it pops out.

4. The very top of the shock absorber cylinder hits my tailgate which means I have to tug just a bit to get the tailgate open..... The long term wear on the tailgate or the shock concern me a bit.

5. The side of the shock absorber cylinder is touching the driver side taillamp when open..... When closed it doesn't seem as though it interferes with the taillamp.

I checked and rechecked my work and everything is as per their instructions... ... As of right now I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't fit better... ... The tugging to open and the guiding of the cable back in seem like minor but potentially irritating characteristics... ... I'll use it for a while and post again once I have extended use.

I have had one on mine for a few months now. Works perfectly and I have no interfearance problems. The tailgate cable develops a "memory" after a while and no longer gets in the way. I like the fact that there is no drilling required and can be returned back to original with no side effects.

Anybody ever seen or used this product? www.ezdown.com
Hi Troy,

I checked that product out some time ago along with the torsion bar style and even a power operated gate. While I have not done this mod yet, it still remains on my list.

The one I will most likely do is is this one because it works both ways and disconnects easily for tail gate removal.

BUT... ... .

That difficulty you mention in the install??? Well, guess what? No one can see how you tailgate is installed. It made my tailgate theft proof without having to install a lock. I have the EasyLift. When installed, no one can see it unless they really know what they are looking for. Someone tried stealing my tailgate and couldn't because of the unique method it takes to rotate and counter-rotate the tail gate in order to fish the torsion bar off the tail gate. For under 30 bucks, it has to be the best aftermarket value I've added to my truck.

Another vote for GateGlide

I have been using the GateGlide for about 2 years and find that it works flawlessly in winter and summer. Due to a pair of torn rotator cuffs I found the tailgate heavy to let down and more so to close. The GateGlide makes the tail gate so balanced that I can lift or lower the gate using one finger. If I open the gate half way and stop, the gate will stay in that position until I push it down or up. I also have a cap or topper on my truck and found that the GateGlide works just find with the topper installed. The GateGlide lays below the box rail and therefore does not use up any useful room from the box. Installation is a one person job. It took this old man less then 20 minutes to install it.

Thanks for all the input. I think I am leaning towards the GateGlide. After thinking it all out, I like the idea of the GateGlide assisting lowering as well as rasing.

I couldn't stand the tailgate hanging up on the shock for the EZdown so I carefully pounded the area on the tailgate and it works perfectly... ... EZ fix... ... Also as CPersing was mentioning the safety cable is learning to stay where it should... ... I'm much happier today than I was last night.

The EasyLift looks simple and effective and is super affordable... ... If it also acts as a theft deterent I'm buying one just for that reason alone.

Got my EZ-Down yesterday, installed it today, works great no issues at all. I was very impressed with the quality of the parts and the tools it came with.

I looked at the easylift but did not choose it as you have to drill holes into the tailgate that then a piece of steel gets inserted into, in my area with all the road salt that would cause a rust problem pretty quickly.

Here's another vote for the EasyLift. This was the only option available for me, as the gateglide would've caused interference with my side boxes. I'm very happy with it, works just as advertised, and one-finger lifts are very easy. It is concealed, offers greater theft protection, and is by far the lowest priced too. The only downside, is that if you have to remove your tailgate often, it should require two people (I did it by myself, but cumbersome would be putting it lightly!) --Eric

I have one. Great for when you have an armfull of stuff to put in the bed, you can flip the release and let the gate drop on its own. Easy to install, good directions.
