My old Realistic has gone by the wayside of new technology PLUS it was picking up so much interference that it would have cost twice the cost NEW for it to fix (Some kind of chipset was needed) Now that old one was klunky and big~Ish now theese new Unidens are nice and portable and handle just about everything out there now that is current. Anybody use em?

I imagine all their highend stuff is pretty good, the 246 looks sweet, nice and small! Have you looked at a UBC-3300XLT? Am unsure what the trunking differences are.

I have an Alinco X3Z, pretty basic scanner.

There have been some enhancements on many of todays scanners that help out with close range talk. I am on the edge of town where if something happens up this way I would get nasty line noise coming back from the repeater when things were in close range to the scanner. Alinco I beieve pioneered the version of Close Talk and is now a technological feature found on most scanners. I would love an alinco but I don't want to drop 600 on one (If you are going to go new go with the GOOD of the new)
