How do commercial jets slow down when Landing?

I just got it up and running and it is a lot better than XP Pro!That system has more bells and whistles than i'd ever thought!I'm going to try a few other versions and see how they are. Don't like microsoft since someone gave me a bug!It got past norton and the xp firewall.

I've used RedHat and Mandrake, but have not yet tried Suse. It's a whole different world, isn't it?

Yes it is! The more i play with it the better it gets. Seems to run faster than ms also. how do you like the Mandrake? That is the next one i was going to try.

I've been running SuSE since 5. 3 or something. Currently, my firewall, linux workstation and laptop are all running 9. 1 Pro. Eventually, I'll upgrade to 9. 2 Pro.

On a side note, SuSE ships a pretty decent firewall with 9. x. So far, either I haven't been hacked, or the attempt has been successful.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but what are the system recommendations for running Suse? I have an old 400 Mhz PII with 128 MB of ram. Do you think this will work?

It's possible to download it from http://www.suse.com (which redirects to a Novell site now) or you can get it at Best Buy, Microcenter, etc. It's pretty commonly available. If you're new to it, definitely pick up the box set, the docs are pretty good for beginners.

System recommendations? It'll certainly be happier with more hardware. You can certainly load it on the P-II, but it won't break any land speed records. XWindows will probably be pretty sluggish.

My first Linux was Yggdrasil in around 1995 or 96. Then I went to SuSe around 1999. Even managed to convince the NRCS to set up a Linux CD-Rom Server on their Sun GIS system for remote sensing imagery when I was working in Bozeman. Much cheaper than the $4K Sun option.

I installed Redhat in 2001 and still have it on my P90 intel box. This month I downloaded, burned, and installed Mandrake 10. 1 to an older 433ghz PowerPC. Total cost for my "system upgrade" will be about $150 with two PowerPC boxes, monitor, keyboard, mouse, modem, two video PCI graphics cards, and a USB PCI card. I've probably spent $50 for Operating Systems since 1996 and am plumb happy with Linux. Does everything I need it to, and then some! :p

I would recommend buying a boxed set if it is your first Linux adventure because you will get a Manual or get the book at the book store with the latest CDs in the back. Advisedly, it can be an adventure! More for the "under the hood" crowd versus the "turn it on and point and click" folks. :)
