My sig below is my current setup. I am very curious as to the effects of exchanging my #10 for a #4. The truck is a pretty good performer with the current setup, but I've got the BOMBing bug in a real bad way. My biggest concern is the effects on the transmission. If I'm pushing too much fuel, I can get a bigger turbo. I do not want to blow the trans up. Did that once on the stocker, no way I can afford that again.

the #4 plate is a good plate. i would not worry about the trans it should be able to handle it. i have been running a #0 plate for the last month and my trans hasnt skipped a beat.

According to some of the "top secret" portions of the fuel plate charts that I have seen, a #4 is reportedly worth 80-100 hp on a 160 hp pump and the #10 about 40-50.

When I began this dangerous bombing path, I talked with some guys from Piers and they said that I should not run a #4 without a turbo upgrade. I did speak with two different people and their opinions were different. One said under no circumstances should I use a #4 without an upgraded turbo and the other person said I would only need a 4" exhaust, aFe intake and 3k GSK. I have whats listed in my sig and need some more. I know I sound like a HP addict Oo.

With 370's and 191's, a #4 will definately give you smoke. Better put a rubber bumper on the EGT gauge stop pin if your running a stock turbo... .

You don't need the hx40, get the hx35/40 hybrid from Piers. Get the 3GSK, AFC springs, the AFE intake, and 4" (no cat) exhaust from DPP.

Youre transmission will cry, suffer and not last long so save $$$$$$ for a better one.

If you really want to bomb then move up to the 370 marines from Bosch or the the DD Stage 2s and the 191 dv's.

You will then have to replace your transmission and universal joints. While your in there get the good intercooler boots and clamps and have the exhaust welded together so you don't blow it apart.

:-laf Happy Trails... ... .....

 Opps, sorry. I see you have most of that. You could put a cast iron grate on your exhaust manifold, cause its cookin... ... ... .

right now i have pdr 370's,181 dv, 16* timing, 3k gsk and a #0 plate running on a stock turbo. im saving for a bigger and better turbo but egts are not to extreme on the stock turbo if i dont drive at wot all the time. the bad parts is if i do wot runs from a stop my boost gauge and egt gauge will race to see which one can max out first. that part stinks. i will be getting a new turbo soon though. piers said that with the stuff i have done now im to big for an hx40 and recommended that i go to the b1 or something of that size. can anyone recommened a good turbo that is not so much money? thanks

When I bought the stuff in my current combo from Piers, they told me the same thing you were told RBratby. Probably the best alternative to a B1 is the HT2B from High Tech Turbo. Some guys on here are running one. Run a search, the HT2B was discussed extensively a few months ago.

AWray,

You shouldn't worry about the trans. I run a #4 plate & etc. The triple disc saves my trans to race for another day after day. The tires are expendable of course. I'm only making about 350hp now till the next item makes its UPS delivery. All the power to the ground not the broken parts.

That's the turbo I'm saving for. It sounds like the best performer for the $ in a daily driver, single charger application.

I have a #4 plate with 3000gsk and stock turbo with the 160 pump. It is fine You just have to watch the temp while towing up long hills.

Mine ran good 'til I added the 370s and the DVs. It actually was pretty livable with just the 370s. Now it will peg my pyro before shift out of first at WOT and my lockup clutch in the converter shudders/slips. I knew what I was getting myself into though. I don't think you have to worry, just watch the gauge...

bluthndr,

Have you thought of using a triple disc converter? After I talked to Dave Goerend it was the best way to go for my automatic.

Your truck looks great!

AWray,RBratby

I'll let you know about the HTB2 after it comes at the end of the month. ;)

The price we pay for these toys, its better to buy the best rather than buy it twice because we didn't. I'm learning that as well I originally installed a 35/40 upgrade turbo, only to find out it wasn't a good daily driver. The boost comes in to high [2,000]. :(

Lucky for me, Steve [ HTT ] exchanged it for the right one.

We are on the way to another great BOMBING year!!!! Oo.

I'm debating if I should go with the #4 plate or have my pump tuned by Columbus Diesel. I know that they can make some wicked horsepower in a diesel motor. EEP uses them for their stuff. I know the plate would be cheaper, but I think a tuned pump would be better in the long run. Especially if I go with a big single or twins.

Since I first made this post I have learned about JR Adkins "lil HX-55". It sounds like another great daily driver single charger setup. From what I have read, it works as a sled puller turbo as well. I haven't talked to JR myself to see what it takes to spool this turbo but I will before I upgrade. I'll have to talk to Piers, HTT and JR before I make a decison.

Wayne, let me know how the HTB2 works for you.

AWray,

I will let you know about the turbo as soon as I put it on. Of course my shoulder surgery may delay that awhile. I'm excited to see what it will do myself. Oo.

Aaron, when you get all your phone work done, let us know your decision on which turbo you will use.

Best of luck,

Waynes World,

I hope your shoulder surgery goes well. It may be a while until I do anymore BOMBs. I just bought my first house. I'll report back once I have some info. Good luck Waynes World.

Thanks Wayne!

Yup - I am going to a triple this spring in addition to a larger turbo (leaning towards HTB2 right now) and an ATS manifold. I am "sort of" sure about the turbo, and less about the TC. I know people who have DTT, ATS, and Suncoast, and all seem awfully good - just need to decide. I'd also like to send out my pump just to get a minor tune up on it, but I found a place I can get a 215hp pump for about a grand (reconditioned). Right now I'm at about 350hp, which I think/hear is about the limit for a "normal" (read not put on a pump stand) 160 hp pump.

Please let me know any of you experts out there that know any better plan of attack... I would like to have about a 500hp daily driver/puller/off roader when it's all said and done...

bluthndr,

The most important trans decision is not easy. All the companies are good. Its all about location & service. :-{}

I think after you drive a truck with a triple disc you will see the difference. Come on over and drive mine.

I just returned from an update on my triple & trans at Goerend's. It works better now to move the truck quicker off the line than before. Dave traded my converter in on a better stator model. Where are you going to find that in a trans company? :--)

The best part is when it came time to pay my bill Oo.

Dave donated the extra parts cost to my favorite charity Pediatric Brain Tumor Association. Where are you going to find a man like that at some other company? ;)

My decision was easy because Dave has done this before for me!!!

Call & talk to him yourself. The important part is to set your driving, HP & TQ goals to set up your trans needs.

Best of luck,

WAYNES WORLD
