at 35,000 i need 4 new ball joints . with all the talk about them , decided to check them and they had a lot of play. enough for the mech to say that he would order all four no questions asked. they said they are a backorder until 2007. just kidding, but when are they going to get here.

I just had mine done, it took about three weeks for them to get them in. I was in Idaho when they came in, so it was a month from the time they were ordered, until they were installed.

It took a week or less for my dealer to get them (just last week), but after two days in the shop (since they didn't get 'round to it on the scheduled appt. day) the repair was refused because I don't yet have . 060 play in them according to the "new way of testing". Mine are 'only' at . 033. On lousy roads that cause/allow the suspension to rapidly extend it sounds like someone taking a ball bat to the side of the truck when the steering knuckle slams down against the axle. With this "new way of testing", all ball joints are now OK so the backlog should be disappearing shortly...

All right so I'm venting a little...

Thats funny, I remember when GM re wrote the specs for free play back in the 80's on their crummy idler arms. Any play meant toe changes while you drive so while the idler was good "according to spec" the customer still needed a replacement unless they wanted to live with the poor tire wear.

. 060" thats sick... .
