Anybody with an 06 have a ECM failure...

Has anybody put a used ECM from another truck (same motor trans ect... )in there truck? To make a long story short. I bought a 06 motor and trans with 9000 miles swapped the motor in to my truck changed the Ecm ,wiring ,ect... fire the truck check engine lite is on runs like sh. . read codes says bad crank sensor we change it. Still the same. So we put the six speed computer in it now the motor runs and sounds good. Now put my computer back in check engine lite on right from the start runs like crap. New computer is 1800 bucks so have a used one coming. Hence my question anybody here have one fail? Where I got my computer from said that was their only one as they had sold quite a few. may be some kind of security - anti theft thing going on ...



talk to a dealer to see if the ecm needs to be programmed to the truck/motor

Well at 173k I got a knock that would come and go a few hundred miles later it became scary when it would do it (didnt do it all the time) my thought was injectors as it sounded up top. Went to a shop that could scan it said nope motors toast. It was down on #5 cylinder. Talk to another shop he said injectors so I had it towed to his shop(I used this guy on my 97 and hes good) he listens to it says hes 90% sure its the injectors. (At this point the noise is there all the time) He puts new injectors in it purrs like a kitten. Well goes for a test drive starts a lite ticking sound witch comes and goes starts getting worse now the truck starts smoking real bad and puking oil out the exaust. It still sounds up top to me. Usally with a rod you can make it come a go with the throttle. This one you cant it just does it. Anyway everybody said 6 to 8weeks well I couldnt wait that long so I bought the remains of an 06 motor trans(6sp),transfercase,frontend,rearend,ect... ... . that way I will recoupe a few bucks as well as have extra parts. Well thats it in a nut shell we did call the dealer they said it sounded like the computer to them also and told me it was 1800 bucks and as soon as I mentioned I had a used one coming they were pretty much done talking to me I wanted to ask them about reflashing it with up dates ect. . well computer should be here today on UPS so I guess I will have my own anwsers soon enough Randy

Now I will take it apart myself find out whats wrong sounds like it mite be time for more powerOo.

Just FYI they are vin locked after 5 or 6 starts the puter locks up. So truck goes to the dealer tomorrow for a new computer 1800 FN bucks Life goes on Randy
