I ordered the 4-2-1 package from Geno's and when changing the oil, could not get the Fleetguard LF 3894 to thread onto the 'spud'.

Luckily I had a DC OEM filter as a spare and it threaded right on! So I took it off and tried the Fleetguard again. No dice. Then I put on the DC filter and it screwed right on. #ad
I still have the DC filter on and going to be due for the next change soon!

I called Geno's (very helpful) and talked with Cummin's, but have no explanation for this peculiar situation.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

Thanks

Davison,

Do a search on the subject. Someone had the exact same problem a while ago. Turns out there was a batch of filters sent out that had the wrong base mounted to the housing, the threaded fitting was too large.

Having just done an oil change this evening I can relate. I think/my . 02 is that due to the lack of space around the filter getting the threads started is more difficult than normal. I did take me several tries, but it (3894 fleetguard) did thread on. Also my filters have come from Genos, if they got a bad batch I missed getting one.

The filter DOES fit. Sometimes it is a ***** getting it to start. It either goes right on,or I end up fighting it to start.
The Mopar filters seem to be beveled a little more,so they go on easier.

The first oil change I did I had a heck of a time getting the filter to thread on. It took me 4 or 5 trys. The second oil change it took 2 trys. I am also using the Fleetguard filter that comes with the 4-2-1 package from Geno's.

I have also had the problem installing the fleetguard. I have changed the filter twice and both times it is a bear to start, especially when it is full of oil.

I have had this problem with other series filters. I now take the turbo in-let hose off and have had no problems getting the filter on. Removing the hose gives me more room and I get to inspect the turbo at the same time.

I have had the same problem. Take a good look at the filter before you remove it next time. It isn't quite perpendicular to the ground. My dad told me years ago when installing something with threads that is giving you trouble, especially if you can't see what your threading, rotate it counter clockwise (for standard threads) against the fitting and when you feel the starter threads drop into place, start to turn clock wise. Hard to describe, easy to feel. That tip has helped me out lots of times.

Thanks for all the replies. Packed up the offending filters today and exchanging with Geno's via UPS. Genos said a bad batch did get thru... . They were really good about exchanging them (as they always are about everything!).

I agree it is a ***** to get to... . I did take off the turbo hose and stillcould have used more room! I was careful to watch the filter and make sure it was screwing on straight. It was frustrating that the DC Filter would go on slick as could be and the Fleetguard was a no go... . So in a 1,000 miles or so I'll go at it again with a new batch of Fleetguards! Want that Stratopore protection!!!

Dave: Good trick from your Dad! I'm gonna try that next oil change! #ad
