Anyone else have the flu?

Well, this is a first for me. I've never had the full blown flu before. Started feeling lousy yesterday and had a 103 temp by the time I got to the Dr. today. Along with the body aches and cough, I'm feeling rather bad. I'm now on the Tamiflu and not looking forward to the next few days laying around.



The Dr. is a little concerned since I am still weak frome the allergic reaction I had over New Years. He wants me to basically stay away from everone for the next few days so I don't pick anything else up or spread it to anyone else. Guess I'll be spending lots of time on here and watching TV.

Yikes!! Start chugging the fluids!! 103 is no joke for anyone but kids!! A cool towel over the neck works real well.
My wife had a colon resection in aug. she's been gaining strength since then and hardly got sick before that. Now last week she's diagnosed with light pneumonia. Heavy antibiotics, keep her back warm etc. it's been a tough season!!

Hey thanks. I have my big jug of Gatorade next to the computer and a couple more in the fridge. I was never really sick in my life before this New Years, and like you wife, it seems like my resistance is down.

My boss took one look at me today and offered to take me to the Dr. himself if I didn't go on my own. Nothing like looking as bad as I feel... . LOL

Careful with Gatorade. Lots of potassium. Too much no good, good to balance your electrolytes if your dehydrated. Can't beat good ol water.

That sucks. I got it over new years and went on for a week before I felt better. I should have took 2 days off but didn't. I was hoping the boss would say go home, but that's not in his vocabulary. I think this was the worst I ever had it. I went to Piggly Wiggly and came out with 2 bottles of cold and flu, case of 7 UP, and 4 boxes of Kleenx. Get Well.

Thanks. The one thing that I have going for me is that I have an amazing boss right now. A great guy and a great friend. He basically said that he would kill me himself if I didn't take care of myself.

Its running rampant around here too. My son just came down with a fever yesterday, and been in bed ever since. If hes laying down voluntarily, I know hes not feeling good. Hes normally a little ball of fire. I think alot of it has to do with the crazy weather weve been having, at least around here. Lots of temperature fluctuations, from warm to cold and back the other way again. Hope your feeling better soon.

Hey, take care of that little one. It doesn't matter for an old fart like me, but I worry when it is a kid. I hope he feels better soon and get him to the Dr. if the fever sticks around. Some of these flu meds work better if you get them during the first few days of the sickness from what I've read.

I work some wierd hours, the bonus is Im home during the day alot and was able to keep him home from school today. Got him in to the dr early, his fever has gotten slightly better compared to yesterday. Baths help fevers a little, (temporarily brings the core temp down) hes had a few of em today. Other than that hes been sleeping alot, which is the best medicine. It helps that mom (my wife) is an RN, so hes in good hands

I'm just getting over it and I had a shot a couple months ago! I wonder how sick I had been without the shot. We took care of the grandkids (twins with the flu, what a joy that is) so their mom wouldn't miss work and now it looks like my wife is sick. She had a shot too. It has set back my engine replacement by about 5 days so far.

Couldnt imagine life any other way my oldest is 9 and youngest is 7. I swear Ive got multiple shadows everywhere I go :-laf

I've never had the shot and my Dr. said that I should get one next year for sure. I guess that there is some types of the virus that the shot must not cover.

My wife and I go rounds every year over whether or not to get a flu shot... . she has to because shes an RN and she rides my arse because I dont get one. She got a shot back in the fall, and wouldnt you know it she got the flu 3 days later. She was down and out for a week she couldnt even get out of bed. I think thats the sickest Ive ever seen her, even when she was pregnant with our youngest child she went into labor the day after spring break started and went right back to clinicals without missing a day.

Theyre a ton of fun at this age I can take them out and do guy things. Catching frogs, fishing, riding 4wheelers, we have a ball together.

Mine are 12&9. Makes life worth living. I hope everyone gets through this rough season. I've been real lucky so far. I see a problem I have is keeping my hands away from my face. If I can do that, I think that goes a long way. Lol.

I let experts in the medical profession persuade me to take the flu shot several months ago - first time in about 25 years I've taken one, and had a terrible case of flu about six weeks ago. Different strain they tell me. The flu was bad but it took me a month to get over the chest congestion and coughing after the flu.

Lots of folks have been hospitalized when this strain of flu moved to pneumonia. It has been almost a nationwide epidemic.

I am sorry you got the flu and hope you recover soon.
I never had the flu until I got a flu shot at work either in 07 or 08. Caterpillar strongly recommend that all works receive the flu shot which they provided for free, still do I believe. Will my boss talked me into it and that is when I got the flu. It was two weeks after the shot and I was out of work for two weeks, doctor said it was a different strain of flu than the shut was designed for. I asked him if my immune system was down from getting this shot but we would not say. Never again will I get a flu shot.
