Didnt they say with the new fuel system it would need to crank more to bring up the pressure. I heard the duramax always took longer to start than the vp44 24v. Because of the fuel system.
My new one does crank a couple rotations before it's lit. The pressure bleeds off the whole fuel system when it shuts down. I'm sure it takes a little bit to build the pressure back up for startup.
Mine definately takes longer than my '01. Doesn't seem right, but its very consistent. The '01 would just barely spin and then start, but this new one seems to take 2 to 3 sec of cranking.
Once in a while it will take about twice as many rotations to start as usual. I have noticed that when this happens I get a puff of black smoke when it kicks off. It seams to be flooding out for some reason. I'll watch closer to figure if it's something I'm doing or the trucks doing.
Thats normal for the 03 to take a few seconds longer to start. As somebody said nature of the beast. On the check gages light flashing by has done it about 6-8 times in 13000+miles. They are suppose to come out with another re-flash I think in April for it.
