What to do about water in diesel fuel

I pulled the old oil plug (leaking) instead of using the factory metal and rubber gasket I cut a piece of Garlock (hard blue paper) and made a round gasket. The leak has stopped. Is it ok to use Garlock? Will it fall apart? I only plan on using the Garlock until next week when the plug from Geno`s comes in.

Garlock has a big line. If it's the blue I'm thinking of, it was there first attempt at non-asbestos material for steam. It sucked for steam but should be fine for oil for a week. Craig

We used Garlock gaskets on the load arm connection for the crude oil ships we used to off-load. We also used it between many of our low pressure(less than 150 psi)oil line connections.

I can't see any reason why it won't work in that application, at least for a week or more.

Thanks for the replies

As stated I ordered the plug from Geno`s with the green hose. In the picture from Geno`s the gasket is blue. What type of material is this? I am courious because if it is something that I can get locally, I will have a few gaskets made.

Just wondering why you would need extra gaskets, once you put the Geno's plug in you shouldn't need to take it out again.

I am thinking that if the paper gasket gets too wet over time and leaks, that I will have replacements. I just want to be ready.
