I was looking to buy some strips of the 3m tape to go over your paint to protect you from rock chips and stuff. I was wondering if it is totaly clear and cant be seen?

As much as my Stainless Steel rocker panels cost, I had thought about protecting them with that type of tape. :D

I would like to put a strip on my rear fender flares as I am getting rocks thrown up from my front tires.

I used the tape under the MOPAR moulded mud flaps/splash guards to prevent chaffing the paint. My new truck is white and the tape is nearly invisible. You can see it more from some angles than others, the edge of the tape is visible. Under certain lighting conditions it can take on a yellowish cast.

Sky,

I have the tape on the hood and fenders and also on the door step plates, guess you didn't see it on my truck at Timberline, so it must be invisible. Well, not quite, Dave's description is right on.

I have the "clear bra" on my truck. The material is made by 3M so it's probably the same as what you're talking about, but I didn't install it myself.

I watched some of the installation, and due to the curves on the hood and front fenders, he struggled a lot smoothing out the kinks. But when done, it looks nice and works very well. My truck is black so it is very hard to see, other than the line where the edge is.

I also had him put a strip down the rocker panels and behind the rear wheel. After 30k miles, this has saved me from a few chips down there, but for some reason the edges are beginning to peel back just a little, so dirt sits in there and makes a brown line (my rockers are silver). The installer had a warrantee on te job so if I can find him again, he should fix it for me.

I can recommend the product, but I don't know if I'd want to install it myself.

Hope this helps,

JimD

Agree with Jim. I started on the fenders, and had to seek professional help. The small straight pieces on the rockers, etc. are OK but the larger curved pieces are a pain to install.

Shelby, I did see yours at Timberline on the hood. It looked a bit yellow, but I hear that it looks more yellow on white trucks. I just didnt want any yellow at all on a patriot blue truck.

BTW, get that exhaust on yet? Sound good?

Sky,

Mine might have looked a bit more yellow than usual, because I had clayed the hood, and the clay left a residue along the edges of the plastic. I haven't figured out how to get rid of the residue, yet. Don't clay or wax over the edges if you get this installed.

Exhaust? What Exhaust. As of Friday it had not shipped and no known shipping date yet.
