Anyone ever had the coolant draincock fail on a cold morning?

This morning I went out and turned on the truck, flipped on the exhaust brake and went inside for a few minutes. Came outside about 5 minutes later to leave and noticed that coolant was leaking from the drivers side of the bottom of the radiator. It was readily apparent that it was coming out of the radiator drain. I turned the draincock and it was real loose and wouldn't stop turning. Would turn and tighten and this would stop the flow of coolant but with very little persuasion it would turn further and start to flow again. I am heading out to get a new draincock right now in my Honda. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. All I can figure is that culprit may be a combination of an overtightened draincock and cold temperatures bringing the problem to surfce.

Some have a strange 1/4 turn lock-up, but you have to push them in far enough to engage the thread/screw. If not, what you end up with is an o-ring or something that has enough friction to fool you into thinking it is tight, but is only held by the snug o-ring and not the threads...

Push hard, then turn, and see if that helps?

Good luck,

Mark

I can see that it needs to push in and then turn to lock. Problem was that it kept turning. Picked up a new draincock and problem is solved.
