Friend sent me this today of their RV. I would have thought it was a gag, but not so.

I told them to be very careful. its liable to explode anytime and could be deadly.

They are full timing while building a new house.

Wow... I'll bet he felt that going down the highway!!!

I have had a couple belt failures in the past tat resulted in a softball sized lump, but that is ridiculous!!!

I'm guessing it got that size sitting there...

That is generally caused by air leaking into the carcass from a puncture, improper plug job, or sometimes just plain tire defect.

But I agree, that is definitely on the scale of grand!

Not that bad, when I used to work in a garage im HS doing tires, people would bring in all sort of stuff. I had one of those bubble gum bubble side walls one time, it was all the way around I got to talking or saw something shiny and the thing had bubbled up all the way around, scared the heck out of me.

When tires are run low they eat the side wall, and you get all these little rubber deals inside the tires, never put 2 and 2 together since I was mostly self taught, that was the actuall side wall and it gets paper thin and bad things happen. Not what that is at all.

That front one looks like it could have been run low at some point as well, or it's just curb damage.

Good luck tell them to be careful.

I know guys... the hairs on my neck stood up when I saw it. I'm going to suggest having road service come to their RV park. I do my best to emphasize checking/running correct air. These and two other couples are really good people, but it's all I can do to keep them safe.

I'll share more when they get something done.

Cheers, Ron

Me too, it's one of the reasons I have an air compressor hard mounted in the truck. When my BFG failed it was not overloaded or underinflated...it just failed.

Dad had the same thing happen to one of his BFG KM2 the same year.

Ron,

A big RV or am I seeing something I'm clueless but curious about. An inflator or equalizing line from the hub?

I can only guess the inner liner has come apart inside, allowing air to pass through to the tread casing.

Inquiring minds would love to know the date codes on ALL tires....

If you spot a semi with that system look at the left front of the trailer and there should be a white light mounted there in view of the trucks rear view mirror.

That will come on to alert the driver in the event of an air loss where the system can’t maintain pressure such as a blowout or rapid air loss from a puncture. Newer versions also monitor wheel end temperatures...
