Anyone ever tow with passengers

Just wondering if anyone out there pulls a 5ver with passengers riding in it? Is legal in my state, just wondering if you think its safe?

I understand it's legal in many states, but I wouldn't even consider putting my cat back there while towing. Stuff happens.

I second that opinion. Your truck has seat belts and airbags, the fifth wheel does not. What if a semi rear ended the trailer? Always better to be safe than sorry. Just have to put up with the family and friends riding with you.



I blowout or sudden sway could throw someone out a window on the trailer.

I wouldn't even consider putting our Shelties back in the 5ver, let alone a person. Have you ever seen an RV after an accident? Regardless of manufacturer (with the possible exception of Prevost or Newell), those things come apart like a 50 cent suitcase in a rainstorm!

If you have ever seen what a camper looks like after it crashed, you would not ever consider it. I have seen a couple and it was unblievable. Nothing left but the bottom frame.

I agree with you guys 100%, however, the horses kept whining about the quad cab being too cramped and the shoulder belts leaving sweaty spots across their chests, I finally had to put them back in the trailer just to shut them up

Really, I know one fellow who used to haul a sheep or two in the back seat of his grand am. He did get a bigger vehicle, and the dealership never did get the smell out of his old car. They must have thought his girlfriend had BO.

I laughed when I read your question. It is legal to tow a 5th wheel while a passenger is inside in my state too. BUT, knowing what goes on inside your 5th wheel while you are towing it can be bad for your mental health. Where do I begin? There was the time a watermelon fell on the floor, cups with water or other liquids, cupboard openings by Gremlins resulting in everything imaginable ending up on the floor, and--my favorite--the time the refrigerator door came off the hinges and everything inside ended up on the floor and elsewhere.



Anybody that has towed a pull trailer or 5th wheel can regale you with stories of fun surprises when opening the door to the RV after a few hours of travel.



Perhaps more importantly, I can only imagine how you would feel if your 5th wheel passengers were injured and you had to defend the decision to let them ride inside!

One winter in Wyoming we picked up some folks that broke down.

I rode in the 5th wheel and the Wife drove. You would not believe how rough and bouncy trailers ride. You could'nt stand up if you wanted to. It also felt like it was colder inside than outside.

I also would not let anyone or pet ride in a trailer even if it is legal to do so mostly because of safety concerns if you were involved in an accident or the trailer broke away from the truck somehow. Beside that what the seats in the truck are for.

Oh Dear not this topic again.............

I brought this up a few months back. Got all kinds of answers on it. Is is dangerous, yes of course it is. If I semi rear ends your 5er, well rest assured, I don't care if you're in the truck or trailer- you're gonna get hurt. If there's an accident that's that bad to completely total a trailer down to the frame, (unless something ran a red to hit the trailer) its gonna likely total the truck too. I had seat belts installed in the sofa, and have only taken passengers on short 20-30 mile trips. I don't think it's that big a deal. I howvever certainly would not consider doing it on a cross country trip, I just don't think its worth it. And it is uncomfortable- mostly I think because you cant really see what's goin on except out the side. I didn't think is was that terribly bouncy, it was more so than the truck for sure but I also have rancho shocks on the trailer. I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I thought I'd shout out my 2 cents.
