Since I was a kid I've been told that Armor All will suck the life out of anything plastic in a vehicle. I've avoided it for that reason, but have never had a new vehicle to risk it on. Does anyone know the truth about it? I'm inclined to use soapy water and let it be, though I have been told by more than one person baby oil is "good" for the plastic. What's da word?

Ditto. The only thing I could add to that is I also use the Formula 2000 (Bright Chartreuse bottle), and it seems to last a little longer on tires, even after a washing.

I was given some armor all for christmas. Its the armaor all wipes and comes in a little tube kind of looks like baby wipes. I have the cleaning wipe and protector wipe. I have used the cleaning wipe when ever I wash my truck and clean out the inside and it does a great job. I used the protector wipe for the first time about 3 weeks ago and found out that you have to make sure you cover every square inch of anyting you put it on or you can tell the next day when you drive around and the sunlight reflects diffrent off the where you wiped and where you missed. It has finally stoped raining this week so Im about to go wash the truck and use both of them and make sure I go over the dash really well this time.

The only problem I've ever encountered with armour all is 1. ) its a dust magnet. and 2. ) when you stop using it the plastic drys and cracks, as along as you dont stop using it is fine. I personnaly prefer 202 for this reason it dosnt dry out if you get lazy.

Be VERY careful spraying Armor All anywhere near your instrument panel bezel or other clear plastic. It will eat into it creating permanent spots. I suggest spraying a rag outside your vehicle and then using that.

Dont ask me how I know ... .

I usually follow the application of Armor All with a t-shirt buffing. Brings out the shine and takes off the excess that attracts dust.

Wonder what ever happened to the "low gloss" Armor All. I use to see it on the shelves next to the original, but not in a long time now. I liked using it the best for the dash. :D

Have used pledge for years on the inside of vehicles. Was told by a guy who showed cars and did auto body for a living that he wouldn't use Armor All for anything but his tires. What do I know, he's the expert.

Remember the old Vinyl padded dashes? I could see that when they dried out they would crack and reveal the "stuffing" underneath. Our dashes are hard plastic - not vinyl. Is Armor-all really the best thing to use. There must be something better specifically made for hard plastic.

I tries Armor-all on the dash of my '03. Never again! I think is looked terrible. Especially on the trim around the radio and temp controls. It's a tiny checkered pattern on mine and the stuff didn't get in the cracks between the checkers.

I've been using a sponge-type dash wipe to wipe the dust off. It works O. K. but doesn't do anything to preserve the dash.

Anyone know of anything that preserves hard plastic?

FWIW: I bought a two man Buster Boat back in 99 from the manufacture (Splash Marine-Oklahoma City, OK). It was made out of ABS plastic with a UV inhibitor in the material. I ask them about cleaning the boat an they said to wash with soap an water an rinse throughly, that soap residue was the worst thing for the ABS plastic. When it was dry to periodically give it a coating of Armor All. Now I'm not saying Armor All is the best thing just what they recommended. My TT rubber roof says to clean with soap an water an rinse throughly an if you want to use a protectant use Protectant 303. I've used Armor All on my dash a couple of times, but also for lite dusting I use a California duster (the small one). It works ok in between serious detailing. :D

I've always used Son-Of-A-Gun , especially on my bike seats wherein it received the name Son-Of-A-Bit@h from my wife... . but she sure holds on tighter:D

24V and Tony T,

Yep, used 303 on all the inflatable boats I've owned. Only thing recommended, by dealers, for use on Zodiac and Achilles inflatables. Protects them from UV. Also, halibut slide over the side and into the boat real easy. Man overboard too if not careful.

Tony,

I have heard that you can dilute Amor-All with water 50/50 to make a low gloss finish. I haven't tried it.

I don't use Amor-All, but use Vinylex from Geno's and Protectant 303 from Camping World instead.
