While under the dash replacing my clutch master cylinder I noticed that the cast housing that the clutch and brake pedal mount to has wallowed out very badly at the clutch pedal pivot, causing me to not have as much clutch pedal travel. Guess that's why I have to depress the clutch pedal to the floor and a little more to crank it, lol.

Anyone seen this before and how difficult is it to replace this housing? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

i belive that you have to slide the dash about 2 inches forward other than that its just unbolt the clutch master, break master remove throttle cable i belive ther are 2 bolts that go up into the dash support

i have a pedal set from my 96 that was an auto and the alumnium peice is the same it just needs you clutch pedal put on it i put a whole new assembly from a 99 in mine when i swaped to a 6 speed so i could also swap to an 01 steering column with radio controls

Good timing for this topic.

I've been noticing a little slop in the clutch and brake pedals and have been considering investigating the pivot shaft.

So, my question is, what all has to be moved/removed to gain good access to the pedal pivot shaft and bushings, etc. for removal and possible replacement? Mine's a '98.

Thanks,

KHelfrich - Thanks for the info and I sent you a PM

JGK - As best as I can tell, you need to pull the gauge cluster, radio/ash tray/cup spiller, glove box and un-bolt the dash and pull it toward you a few inches to remove the bracket. If I'm reading the above post correctly.

ok so I finally got around to replacing the bracket.

It was a pretty big job and I'm feelin pretty old right now, lol.

Not a fun job for a tall person, lol.

I ended up needing to pull pretty much of the left side of the complete dash. Air tools would make this faster, as well. An extra set of hands would come in handy putting the brake master cylinder back through the firewall and holding it while the pedal bracket is slipped over it's bolts and to help push the dash back into place to fasten it. If I had to do it over again I would probably remove the drivers seat to make more room for me and to drop the steering column more. Anyway going to finish all the little stuff tonight after work so if anyone has any questions in the future let me know.
