We have 60 acres of hardwood tops from a timber sale and blow downs that need cleaned up. Lots of roads, easy access. 90% on the ground, 10" or smaller.

Is there a market for chipping the brush?

Gene, you know how I've been talking about all the apple orchards being burned in my area. Well there is a new outfit in town that removes the trees and grinds them up for cheaper than burning, if they spread the chips. If you want the chips hauled off it costs more, I take this to mean that there is no market for them. Your hardwoods very well could be different though.
The grinder is outrageous, 12 cylinder Cat engine, the feed hole is about 12 feet in diameter, located on top, they drop an entire tree, with a 18" trunk, in with an excavator dirt filled roots and all, it spits out the chips almost instantly. The guy running the machine said that it was designed for building demolition to make hauling easier and cheaper at the landfill. It will grind up an entire house, steel plumbing, toilets, electrical wiring asphalt roofing and stucco with no problem. It sure is one loud sucker though.
