I went to the local truck customization shop the other day to ask about the available gauge backgrounds. They make a sweet white background replacement for the gassers, but not one that has all the lights such as "wait to start" for the diesels. Has anyone found a white background? It would look great to match the gauge cluster to some Autometers on the pillar instead of the stock background.

David, I first saw these on e-Bay. Have found a place in K. C. ,Ks. that handles them, but like you none for the Diesels, the tach. goes to 6000 rpm also. They told me to call the dist. , APC, 1-800-594-4272, they said if they got enough calls for them they would have some made up, so everyone call them!! They are called "Indiglo" Guages. They don't replace, they go over the existing face plate, would require removing the pointers on the guages. The body shop foreman at my dlrs. said he had a special tool to pull the pointers off, and it was not too difficult to do. Give them a call, I'd like to have a set. BTW, the price I got was 90 clams + ship.

I almost ordered one of these from JEGS. They sell them for a few over one hundo. They say they don't have them yet for the 2000-2001, although I don't know if there is a difference. As for the diesel versions, not sure.

They also sell some "Speed Glo Luminescent" dash kits that are green at night, and white during the day.

JEGS is 1-800-345-4545 or www.jegs.com

Yogi,
I'll call them tomorrow. Any idea how their quality is or how the guage face attaches to the old face? I think this would be a really great looking modification to these trucks especially with the Autometer ultra-lites.

Soler,
I tried the Jegs site and couldn't find the faces you were talking about. They probably don't have one for diesels anyway. Thanks though.

Yogi,

Bad news, I talked to a guy named Nolan at APC today and he said that it would take "thousands" of requests for the things in order for them to make them. He said to check the magazines to see if anyone else had them. I'm not expecting much though. Oh well.

wasn't there a group buy to get white faced gauges for the 99-02 clusters here??? i remember seeing it, but i don't remember who arranged it. . might want to search back [12-16months?] and see if there is anything there. .

I had one in my '01 and I believe it was a NU-IMAGE, I bought it as a group buy from a guy on TDR. I think the guy was DieselDan.

Well I gotta say it has to be what was the best thing I have ever done!

TDR Member Diesel Dan Was the man who got this thing rolling for us Diesel Heads. He had spoken to someone @ Nu Image and the rest is history.

This Thread Which is and OLD THREAD is what started it all. This Thread is the production thread. Also an OLD THREAD.

Couple Notes on Install. 1; Watch those needle stops (Thank god My eye caught it and it didn't hit the floor) They will go sailing!

2: I quite simply Had kept the truck at normal temp Juuust before removal of the cluster. I swapped the faces and re installed the cluster with no needles. Started the truck and waitded a few minuteswith the exh brake on and GENTLY positioned the needles where they should be for my truck at temp that I had marked down moments before. Confirmed position and snugged em in.

As I started to put up before Yeah the install is a snap. If anything I feel it was the easiest White faced anything I have done yet! And that includes Bikes , Cars , Trucks and one Sled. My Mustang being the worst but thats a whole nother issue.

The A/C Panel will prolly give most of us a hard time as I can see it being the most evenly contact cemented on out of the three panels. So make sure your thumb is ready to rub. Theres alot of surface there for the adhesive to stick so that's why I say that.

The Gauge cluster itself is pretty much only glued around the needle openings ..... However that won't let you off that easy. Kep an X~Acto knife handy as it is easy to pick off the reminents of the prior facia. MAKE SURE YOU GET OFF THE OLD BITS THAT ARE LEFT! Bumps underneath can ruin what should be an easy and perfect install.

Reeaal Easy here folks. Like I said above watch out for those needle stops they will take off and dissapear on you if you are not careful. And pretty much keep the truck running the whole time (If you have an exhaust brake) Or do most of the uninstall and drive it and then when the truck is at temp pull the cluster. That way you are limiting the down time for pressures and temps to drop off.

Theese clusters DO NOT have a speedo cable to deal with so no need to fret on that.

Hope this helps and any Q:s Feel free.
