Anyone have any NOS or at least even very clean trim for the 89/90 trucks?

I hit a big (actually HUGE!) bump in upperstate New York yesterday and when I got to the gas station a few hours later, I found this!

P. S. Sorry for the spelling error in the title! :D Mods, please fix if you read this!

Bed Trim Moulding

I may have a good used one. I will search and get back to ya.

I almost lost my LE tailgate trim last year too. I don't trust the clips anymore. My wife helped me unload recycling at our recycling center in town and she closed the gate. Well, she didn't close it as briskly as I do. ;) As I was driving, we heard a loud boom that shook the truck. I checked my mirror to notice that the gate had fallen down. No big deal. We pulled over and I walked back to shut it. After I closed it, I saw that my nice aluminum LE trim panel was gone!! I looked down and saw it laying on my Rhino Step, just like I had set it there. WHEW! Glad I got that Rhino Step!! At home I put it back on the clips, but added a few strips of 3M two-sided trim tape to make sure it doesn't happen again. I had to layer the tape to get it thick enough to work. It won't come of easily now.

Wow! Would not want to lose that panel!!

I appreciate your checking. Hard to find clean stuff for these trucks these days.....

Now to get some new clips too! ;)

Any luck? If not, let me know, I think I've got some take-off beds that they're still on..... I think one is still in good shape..... it came off my second '90 model when it was three weeks old to make room for the steel bed... . it's in the barn on top of the old 510 Massey combine, waiting on my lazy arse to restore a truck, someday... . without a steel bed...

... (and you knew it was coming)... . and no, I don't have any nice body moundings... . but I saw some at the water park last week!!!:-laf:rolleyes:

Sorry, couldn't help it.....

HH. Still nothing yet. Andy has one but I refuse to take parts if at somepoint in time they will be used for restorations or repairs. I want it off a truck someone is parting out and would scrap if I did not take the part! ;)

Same goes for you bit it may go onto the truck again at somepoint, I wont take it!

So we areteo for two the way I see it. I will be going to a boneyard in the next few days that apparently has a lot of gen 1s. Will see how I do there.

Oh yes. Water moundings. I love I phone autocorrect. Worst part is I can't edit the thread title! :-laf

quick question, i see yours is a '90 was the trim the same through all the years?, if so i've got 3 trucks ones gotta have a decent one and i'm planning on taking it off anyway, lmk mine are early '91,92,and a 93

Body Moldings

(there, I found yet another way to spell 'trim' in the header to help future searches)

Hmm, StonageMax, I'm thinking 89 and 90 were the last years of the aluminum with vinyl insert trim like Robert needs. I know that style went back to 86, but not sure if any earlier. I think the 91-93 have a black vinyl glue-on rubber trim with a thin plastic-chrome bead in it?

Robert: I put out a trim APB with my parts buddy I bought my truck from and he said he may have one, so I guess that's backup plan 4. :-laf

If you strike out at the salvage yards, and find no others, I'll put him on the hunt for a certified "extra, I'm never gonna need it" peice of trim. :D

I applaud your ethics! Were all here to help. I love this group.

Wellllll, I wouldn't offer it if I planned on using it. I don't like it as it has a tendency to come up AWOL whenever I drive "normal. " Also, almost everything I have has or will have a steel bed. The insurance is cheaper, they hold up better, and I'm just rough on crap. Thirdly, if I did go with a bed and used sidemoulding, like I plan on the the '85, I'm gonna use a more common adhesive style from Spartan, that A: I can find replacement more easily, and B: it won't come off as easily when the plastic clips break. I've already ground all the steel lugs off and painted over them, so here we go.

I'll check this afternoon to make sure I still even have that piece. With my dad around, things come tend to come up missing if they sit around too long! I'm sure he says the same thing about me!:D

Thanks for the offer but they stopped using that stud style in 90. :(

Andy - yeah. I would not sleep at night knowing I would maybe prevent another first gen from seeing the road again do to missing trim.

HH - Ok. That would be great! Thanks you. Please check then and lmk. I know how that works with dad as mine is the same way. :-laf

Well, Bob, I'm sorry. The only piece missing on that bed is, you guessed it, the front right! :( I thought it was on there, but the bed is upside down under another one without trim, so I was looking at the driver side. The other two beds I have are '92-93. I'll check my older parts, my '84 had some trim on it I took off because I lost some pieces, same on my '90, but I don't know which ones were lost or broken..... my '85 is a SB, so I know that won't work. My '90 parts are at my grandfather's old place, so it'll be a few days before I get down there. I'll let you know if I find any of the pieces. They're scattered, kinda like my brain. :D I've also got another '90 gasser, but I'm pretty sure it was an LE?, bottom of the line package without trim. Sorry, man. But we'll find something, just give us a little time!!

Good lord! You have more trucks than Warren had back in the 80's! :-laf

Green with envy here bro, green wityh envy! :D

No worries. Take your time. I am going to a boneyard today and will see what I find. I may luck out. I hope!

Makes me wish I would've kept these now... I've thrown away more of those moldings than I can count due to no place to store things. At one time I had 7 trucks setting around in various stages of repair... until mom gave me the speech about ruining the family reputation, being embarrassed to invite anyone over, etc, etc.

That's actually funny! At least the part about the lecture from mom! :-laf

The part about the trim is sad. Very sad actually. I imagine many trucks over the years have had the trim tossed... . :(

Well, I did find a section of trim thanks to the Ontario TDR VP. The piece has seen better days but is eliminates the ugly void. The boneyard did net trim clips and ironically two spare doors off a 70s crew cab, but no clean trim.

Not in a huge hurry now as I have something that works for the moment. But if anyone comes access some nice clean southern parts, let me know! :)

Thanks!

Looks like I'm the party pooper, jumping into the 1st gen camp. :-laf

I'm glad that void is filled, your truck does not look right at all without it. :)

I believe I have the trim you need off of a take off bed I am using for my 91. 5. pm me if you are still looking. It is a brand new take off bed so the trim is really nice like nos
