Anyone Have Experience With Cooper STT Pro's?

Hi, folks! I'm going to be in the market soon for a new set of tires. I'm currently running Goodyear Trailrunners (they have 53K on them with enough tread to last me through the rest of the summer and early fall) and had my heart set on some Duratracs. That was right up until Goodyear made the news several days ago. So now I'm in search of different tires and have been considering the Cooper STT Pro's and would like to know if anyone out there has had any experience with them good or bad. I'm also open to other suggestions as well (I've seen a lot of Toyo and Nitto recommendations on here for the more aggressive tread type tires).

Also, I've been running 285's (stock 17" x 8.5" rims) and I'm seriously considering going to 315's this time around. The Copper STT Pro's are rated rated for 8" - 11" rims (with 9.5" rims being optimal). I'm not worried about rubbing as I have a 2" leveling kit installed, just concerned a bit about how they'll look. The stock 265's, IMHO, look like they belong on a car. The 285's fill the wheel wells up much better and look like they should be stock (and probably should be). I'm just a bit concerned that the 315's might be a bit too much, although I've seen some of y'alls trucks with 315's and they look pretty sweet. I never bothered to have my speedometer recalibrated with the 285's but I know I will with the 315's. Are there any other gotcha's that I need to know about in moving to 315's? I'm just trying to do my homework so that when the time comes, I'll know pretty much what I want and have considered all of the things that I need to.

They came on my truck when I bought it. Tires had around 5k miles on them when I bought the truck and they wore horribly. They also had a ton of road noise from about 50% on and traction really fell off as tread depth depreciated and compound hardened.

Depending on your requirements maybe look at the AT3 XLT (Cooper). They wear much better than the STT, are 3PMSF rated and just seem to be a better all around tire. The one complaint I have, and it may be isolated, is I had a real time getting them to balance. Took a couple of tries but they are good to go now.

Tire size is really preference. I think 285/75/17 looks the best. Good combo of height and width. Getting into 315 series gets too wide for my preference, not to mention gets harder on steering components. But it's really all in what you want.

comrade - i have 8 vehicles. most with goodyears. will never buy one again. why these companies ruin themselves with politics is beyond me. good luck with your choice. i have had good luck with toyo.they seem to wear well for where i live... cheers :)
 
I ran those Coopers on my wife’s 1500 Megacab. They were great tires for off roading, snow and dirt roads. They were noisy and on certain highway types would vibrate like crazy. They wore very quickly compared to my Toyos and Duratracs.
 
Running 295/60R20 STT Pro's on my 2016, no regrets there, a lot better wet weather traction over the ATs that came on the truck; tires are wearing very well, have 15K on them now, another 5-10K before I replace them. I don't wear out tires before I replace them. If Toyo MTs are the same price, I may go back to them (great experience with 295/70r17 on my 2004.5), if I can save $100 a tire will stay with the Cooper tires.
 
Coopers for me. I’m running the AT3 XLT and have been very happy with it. I’ve got 1 thats sometimes a pain to balance with the balance beads but it’s smooth right now. 12K miles and counting.

Please, its reported that 70K people work at good year. Your going to buy at Chinese tire to make point. Who wins?

Why does not buying Goodyear mean you have to buy Chinese? There are other US made options....
 
Ny Son runs Nitto tires and I installed a set on my 01 Sport. They are quiet, grip well and have worn very little!

I don't wear out tires before I replace them. If Toyo MTs are the same price, I may go back to them (great experience with 295/70r17 on my 2004.5), if I can save $100 a tire will stay with the Cooper tires.

I have my tires rotated and balanced about every 6K miles, so as long as they don't wear too aggressively I should get get decent wear out of them.
 
Bridgestone and Firestone are also American owned and made. I can’t say that for sure on all of their product line, but I do know they have several tire factories here in middle Tennessee.

Many tire brands are made in The USA.

I have had decent luck with Cooper tires, but, they never gave me the wear miles other brands gave me. I like Coopers as they are "stiffer" than a green feeling squishy Michelin tire. The extreme heat, high loads, and road conditions out here do eat tires quickly in general. My preference is the Discoverer® HT3™ commercial highway delivery tire. They have a 50K treadwear warranty now and I have used it. They wore evenly and good traction with no "noise" when pushed in a parking lot turn like the old Tiger Paw Uniroyal screamers.

When we delivered auto parts and tires we handled/delivered lots of Toyo Open Country tires: a very good tire out here. And also lots of MasterCraft tires made by Cooper.

Hopefully Goodyear gets their heads out of their butt.
 
X2 on the Toyo's. Nitto is their cousin I was told. Not sure where the parent company is but I was told they are manufactured stateside.

I used em on my 06 and got great service out of the Nitto's. Not so much the Toyo's but I got lax in the rotation cycle.

Uh, yeah, they do have factories that employ many Americans right here in mid TN. I know, because they are one of my customers.
 
I’ll never run another set of Toyo’s. Even the dealers around here admit they wear too fast to 5/32 and then stay there thru the warranty period.

The last set of LTE Toyo’s I ran weren’t winter safe in 20-25K miles but I was able to squeak them to 40K with a summer road trip and work in AZ. Still only got mileage warranty on 1, complete BS.

Then I tried 14 ply Toyo’s and they wore even faster.

Before we quit using Toyo Dad got 16K on one set and 22K on the replacement set.

Toyo is overpriced junk IME.

I won’t try Nitto for the same reason, as they are a Toyo brand. The local dealers say they do better than Toyo, but still pretty dismal for any gravel road towing.
