Anyone have Goodyear 305 MTRs? MTRs VS. BFG All terrain T/A's?

I received my new 3500 SLT HO SRW SB 48RE Graphite yesterday! Oo.

Time to make some changes! I'm planning on finding some more aggressive tires. I REALLY like the ride of my new truck, and I would like to keep the great ride it currently has as much as possible, but want some better looking tires. I had some 285 Goodyear MTRs on my '01, and they were kinda' noisy, and the truck lost some of it's manoeuverability. REALLY NICE traction with the MTRs. But the '03 is a TOTALLY different truck, to say the least! So far it's the 285 or 315 BFG's and the 285 or 305 MTRs. I know a lot of people on TDR really like the BFGs. Any suggestions??

I am definitely impressed with the '03. It's gotta' be the sports car of the one ton trucks!! I like the 48RE, this thing reminded me of my '96 V-10. Even after 270 miles, the engine is loosening up some. Drove 200 miles on I-80 today, varied between 65 and 90. The overhead showed around 16. 4 mpg, actual calculated was 14. 8 mpg. About 70 miles was in town. It's getting AS GOOD of milage as my old '01 CTD SO 5 speed!! Too bad diesel is $1. 70 / gal. and headed UP, but driving this truck makes it easier to handle. It even kinda' sounds like my old V-10 at 75. VERY QUITE in the road compared to my '01, it's A DREAM to drive in town and on the road. VERY nice vehicle. :D

I would not put anything but MT/Rs on any of trucks. In fact, I wish I had put them on my Sami. They ride MUCH better than the OEM Michelins. The Super Swampers on my Sami have road noise, the MT/Rs on any of my trucks don't.

I have 9000 miles on my truck now and have had 305/70 MTRs on it the entire time. These tires are very impressive-low noise for such an aggresive tire, good weight rating, good handling, and are the best mud and snow tire I've ever used. Was in the snow this morning and keep getting impressed.

I really like the looks of the MTR's, but my buddy put a set on his truck and they are already 1/2 gone at 7000 miles. I have the same size (315/75R16) in BFG MT's at over 10000 miles, still have over 3/4 tread left. Looks aren't everything, I guess. I saw a new BFG pattern on a rockcrawler, supposed to be the "new" tire this year on the rocks. Anybody know anything about it?

i think that new tire is the krawler t/a. it is suppose to come in 2 tread patterns. one that is factory cut to look more or less like a mud tire should, the other is not cut, so the tread bars go almost across [think way early ww1 jeep with the bar grip tires] to allow for hard core off roaders to customise their tread. avalable in 15" and 17" sizes to begin with [iirc, the 17" is the 37x1250 version] there is an article on www.rockcrawler.com that is where i remember reading the info i have

Thanks for everyone's input! I decided to try something different and go with the BFG's in the 285 size. The 285's are over an 1. 1 inchs wider than the Michelin stock tires, have the same weight rating, and have white lettering. According to the BFG web site, the 315's "do not meet the RMA requirements for severe snow condtions", what ever that means. The 315's do have a 106 mph speed rating vs. a 99 mph rating for the 285s. The 285's should have little effect on my speedo. The local tire shop is selling me a set of 5 for about $500, including balancing, etc. , plus trading in my stock tires.

I did really like the MTR's on my '01. Outstanding traction, but handling suffered slightly and noise was more than my Goodyear ATS's. I orginally wanted some Goodyear ATS's for my new truck, but they don't make them in 17" size. I REALLY liked my ATS tires, 50k on them when I changed them and they still had some tread left and I never rotated them. They were not good in mud, OK on snow, but drove and handled EXCELLENT. If he BFGs don't work out well, it's back to the MTRs.

I think you will like the BFG AT/KO's I have them on a 95 Toyota Landcruiser and they don't seem to wear at all??? I have over 50K miles on a set and they still look great, should get over 100K miles from this set. Plus they go everywhere. Enjoy.

I'm impressed with these Goodyear MT/R 315's. With about 6k miles of experience I note less noise for a tire of this style. They spin at Hiway speeds with no vibration. They look very cool and wear aspects are very good so far. I expect 40k from these tires but I do rotate and care for them on a tight sked.

Yes they are louder than the factory Mich's and fuel milage has suffered a bit but they hold the road way beyond what the Mich's would do.

AND THEY'RE NOT MANUFACTURED BY A FRENCH COMPANY!
