Shell resto

Red Neck livin on the Keeentuky River

I hope to tap some of the deep and varied talent here to help me finish this team logo for the high school trapshooting I coach and get some t-shirts & hoodies made for them before season is over.

This logo was begun last year, and the art instructor who did most of it is no longer here. I would like to take what he did and maybe fit it 3-D fashion (text and all) into the shotgun shell shape instead of just a plain old box. With my very limited skills, I sort of sketched the shell shape I had in mind.

Can anyone here tweak this into something I can take to a screenprinter? I would like to do two versions: One with and one without the 2010 Inaugural Season wording.

I'm always open to suggestions, too. I just need to get this done very soon. i can send a better pdf. file or whatever of the graphic to your email if that helps.

Thanks!

I'll give it a go. Send the PDF, including as much information as you have about the details of the logo as it stands: colors, fonts, goals, what the O's in Solon are (back end of a shell?). If you have a decent camera, take a picture of a shotgun shell with the lighting and perspective you envisioned. If the colors are school colors and you can find out what the PMS equivalents are, send them, too.

I'll do it up in Adobe Illustrator (vector graphics) and provide . ai and .pdf.

How soon is 'very soon'?

Thanks, Neal! The O's are clay pigeons. My suggestion to the art teacher was that exploding ones might add a dynamic dimension, but his rendering is pretty nice. I had to find a "restore point" on this hard drive today (hey, it was a free computer that I only had to buy a keyboard for). So let me get a couple things working. (I wonder why the system restore completely wiped out my contacts list and goodness only knows what else?).

The school logo (Sparty; shown below) is identical to the Michigan State Spartans, except the school colors are orange and black instead of green & white.

As for how soon? I'm way behind the curve on all of this. My main objective is get the kids some team shirts and/or hoodies before season ends at the state championships the first weekend in June. I have 3 graduating seniors who have busted their humps for two seasons and I want to make sure they get theirs first. One of them, unfortunately, has been battling leukemia since our season started in March. He's a remarkable young man. All I need to do to describe that 6'6" easygoing young man is tell you that he spent his brief 1-week reprieve from chemo, before going back for a bone marrow transplant, at home and promptly sneaked out the back door the first afternoon with his shotgun and went out and bagged a nice big spring gobbler; thin as a rail, bald head, germ mask, cold nasty weather and all.

My 71 year old mother has been busily sewing up some really nice shooting vests for the kids. So far, we have looked a bit ragtag compared to the other well-established teams with nice gear and shirts and jackets. Usually the whispers are "Who are those guys?" when we arrive, and "Who are those guys?!" when we leave.

We don't even have a brick & mortar shooting range or club supporting us or such a place to practice, unless we drive a 70-mile round trip and pay out the nose to use a neighboring city's range (where they already sponsor two teams of their own; competitors of ours; and we don't get a school-team discount like they do) so I bought a $1700 portable oscillating trap machine and we practice in one of the kids' corn stubble field 2 miles south of our small but mighty school. Appropriately country-boy style, I suppose, though we also have a girl on the team this year.

We are currently ranked 6th out over 90 teams in the state already with the season half over. Not too shabby for a bunch of unfunded newcomers shooting old duck and pheasant guns, which are a far cry from proper trap guns. Yeah, I'm pretty proud of these kids.

Scott, send me your email. (Mine's in my reply, above' change the 'dots' and 'ats'. )

Attached is a jpeg of a rough draft of the text. I don't like the 'SHOOTING' yet; it doesn't look right.

Update: barrel and trigger are done, border added.

Now comes the tricky part: creating the clay pigeon and getting the 3D shading to look right.

Another update: the pigeons are done and I tweaked 'SHOOTING'. However, I believe I need to change the pigeons; they bear a resemblance to certain female protruberances. I need to adjust the 3D perspective so they don't seem so thick.

But. Is this basically what you wanted?

Neal, I got a pm message in my email, but then a storm took out my internet and cable for days. I sure appreciate the hard work and time you have put into this. Where was the link to go to the image?
