last night I changed my brakes. after the last brake job (actually during) I installed "Speed Bleeders". These things replace the stock brake bleeding nipples. Internally they have a spring and ball that prevents backflow into the brake system and theoretically bleeding brakes becomes a one person job.

Last night I cracked one speed bleeder to compress the piston on the caliper (without forcing fluid into, past and through the ABS unit). I did this on the first brake job at about 26kmi and this is what probably led to the front ABS failure at 70kmi. That's why I bought the speed bleeders.

However, I then went on to the second caliper. I had to compress the piston quite a bit before brake fluid came gushing out from the pressure built up.

My question is... does anyone have any history with these things freezing up? Malfunctioning? The stock nipple bleeder covers were still on and there didn't seem to be too much corrosion (dry California) on the units?

Any comments or insights?

thanks in advance.

Speeders Bleeders

Had the bleeders from EGR for six years no problem. Neighbor put some on from his friendly auto parts store and had same problem as you.

speed bleeders

EGR sales speed bleeders. You can go to www.speedbleeders.com and check them out. The ones at your frendly auto parts are not the same quality, unless they are made by speed bleeder. Mine are six years old and six brake jobs. They work great.

I got some about a year ago from Napa for my Jeep. They said speed bleeders on the pack. Worked fine when I put them on another set of calipers not long ago after the old ones were leaking at the pistons.

The Speed Bleeder I'm talking about has the registered trade mark on it. There are a lot of speed bleeders out there by name, but with the registered trade mark. I picked mine up from EGR brakes. They cost more from EGR but work great.
