I am looking at replacing the stock clutch in my 96. I am going with a Southbend Clutch and gave them a call today. I am wanting to go to the new double disk clutch setup so I can do a little pulling if I wanted to. In order to do this, the input shaft needs upgraded to the 1 3/8" shaft. Do all NV4500 come with the small input shaft? Do these trannys have problems with input shaft breakage? Anyone who has installed this style DD clutch like to comment on the driveablility? Thanks.

I am rebuilding my 4500 right now and I believe the normal input shaft for the 4500 is a 22 tooth, 1 1/4", 10 spline shaft. After chipping the corner on my shaft thats what I had to order. And... . good luck finding an original OEM shaft. Any that you find are worth their weight in gold, thats because New Venture has quit making the 4500 and the 5600 transmissions. Hope this helps.

In other words, if I upgrade to the bigger shaft, the stock shaft that I remove has some value to it? That would make the upgrade a little cheaper. What is the stock input shaft worth?

Depends on what someone is willing to pay. It is used, therefore an unknown to others. When people have to pay the big bucks they want a warrantee or when you have an item involved with a lot of maintenance like a transmission, they want a known so they don't have to do the maintenance again. Yours is used and is an unknown and has no guarantee. Of course this all depends on what you are going to charge. I just bought mine and it cost 125 plus shipping. Through the dealer, 695. Don't know if this helps but I hope so.

ive broken 3 inputs on mine and paid no more than 100 bucks for them. the stock shaft on the 4500s is junk in my opinion, and doesnt hold much power, but i plan on going to an auto soon so that will alleviate my transmission problems
