Just read an article in the new TDR mag. The article seems to give props to the new Edge ball bearing turbo. Has anyone installed it yet? And does it perform well with just minor mods. I'm running a quad box, exhaust, and AFE filter. Just wondering if it makes a significant increase in perfomance with minor mods like mine.

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed in depth... too lazy to do a search.

Thanks Matt,

Great thread. Sounds like this product has been on the market for a good 8 months. Whatever fixes were made must have solved the problem. But even then there didn't seem to be a problem for most of the 3gens who don't run over 450hp.

In the new ads it does sound promising highlighting lower pressures than the competition while increasing volume over stock with excellent spool to keep EGT's down.

The Industrial Injection product has won the attention here seems like. I am sure it costs less than the Edge BB. If I remember the BB didn't have a waste-gate so boost would be controlled by not over fueling.

A little off topic but why done they just use external wastegates instead of de-fueling?

Here is a pic of my truck getting outfitted with a new external wastegate. :D

Do it right the first time with industrial injection's Super Phat Shaft 62 Turbo...

Yep, at least do more research and make an educated choice.

The SPS62 or the SPS66 are the right choice! Oo.

A non-wastegated system is referred to as self-regulating. As long as the HP doesn't exceed the range that the turbo was designed for, it should not overspeed, regardless of the fact that it doesn't have a wastegate.

My 515hp ETH makes ~37psi with this turbo. Cord Reynold's 540hp ETC makes about the same, but his is an auto truck. This turbo works well up to around 550rwhp. Only beyond those levels would the boost potentially become an issue.

Actually pretty impressive if it spools as well as they say and keeps things cool.

the bb turbo has been out in other aplications for a long time. they basically make new compressor and turbine housings on the same center section. its the same as used on my car and most others like it for the last 10 or so years.

I love the wastegate, that must be the new turbosmart 300mm, lol. thats awesome

LOL. The best part is that is a REAL wastegate just made in gigantic size for their SEMA display.

They sponsor my race car and stopped by on their way home after SEMA.

Here's my 2 cents:

For all the pestering of Keith Lockliear and Aaron Stewart I have done over the past ten months with this turbo, I feel I owe them this:

I bought one of the very first offerings, before some grenaded and sales were suspended. If you're interested, see my profile for bombs.

I put over 20k miles on the 1st gen. offering. Keith and Aaron convinced me to hang in there..... I was worried it would grenade like some other's, even though most of them were 3rd. gen trucks. I decided to wait it out for the revised model, and was repeatedly reassured by both Keith and Aaron that I could expect a free replacement when the revised model was released, or get a full refund if I didn't want to wait. It replaced a Dodgezilla hybrid 12cm. Thought spool was just a little slower than the DZ but smoke control, egt. reduction and top end were so much better. I was tired of seeing my egt's. hit 1500+ so quickly.

I replaced the 1st gen. with the new model in mid December, and have over 5k miles on it.

The new one spools even better. (I had the first PDR Nasty Nine, modified HY 35, so I think I know what quick spool is)

On level 5x5, I have not exceeded 1400, and I'm at ~90 mph when I get there. Very slow and steady rise. Level 3x1..... haven't gone over 1250.

I usually drive on level 3x1 everyday if pavement is dry. Marco's catcher too wicked for wet sufaces..... have to turn down to level 1x1.

Smoke off boost on level 3 is hardly worth mentioning... . clean pipe at 10 lbs. of boost. (I'm at ~200 ft. above sea level). Level's 4 and 5 are heavier, but clean up very quickly. I do not like smoke! ..... causes road rage with the snail darters. No smoke complaints.

Maximum boost hasn't gone over 40 psi.

Street manners are excellent... . no surge, never. I did bark it once, but I deserved it.

This turbo, for me, meets all of my needs and is a perfect match for my bombs. I haven't dynoed for almost two years, so I don't know where I'm at, and frankly don't care. I came close to burning out trying to dial my truck in to what I wanted. If your bombs are close to mine, you might like this turbo.
