Just like the subject says, anyone straight piped a 3rd gen? I've searched and searched and all I can seem to find is people trying to quiet their rigs, or spending $500+ to have an exhaust system with a muffler. Has anyone straight piped theirs, with either stock exhuast or aftermarket?

Mine is straight pipe. I like the sound. My only complaint would be the drone at about 2100 rpm. I think its just as loud at those rpm's as my old dodge gasser with duals.

Almost all peopel with the straight pipe have the 2000 - 2150rpm drone. I run the 5" straight pipe kit from Rip Rook and LOVE it. Sounds great.

Sounds Good!!

i have a 2005 3500 QC 6sp short bed w/ 780miles. I have already cut my muffler and cat off and put a straight pipe (bought) from a local Mack truck dealer. It sounds good and makes people look. It aint no duraturd or powerjoke sound, i sounds as good as the 550 CAT I drive everyday.

I ran straight-piped for about a month and put a muffler back on. After having 3 2nd Gen trucks, all with straight pipe, I just couldn't stand the sound of this one. It just isn't the same.

Right here dude!!!!!!

With the exception of the kitty shes straight through. The wife loves it :-{}. I could'nt here what the h*** the motor was doing and besides the gear lash from the 56 honey isn't as noticable. It's awesome with 5" turndown

Same here. Love the sound. Geno's muffler eliminator. Have been told it sounds like a cat dozer when I'm plowing with a full blade. The houses on my route must love it to at 3am. :-laf

Straight pipe here. For the best sound and less drone run the 4" pipe (if you have an 03)as far forward as you can. I have 4" all the way to the HX-40 now. Sounds great.

I've got 5" straight pipe it sounds sweet 03 so no cat. It rattles windows. I live in the city of denver CO so I deal with a lot of tree hugger eviormentalits how ever you spell it. Any way I leave my house about 5 am and I wake every one it is sweet.

hey sick_ram, is your truck a 6 speed or an auto? how many poines did it make?

BTW str8 piped 3rd gens sound bad azz homies ;)

So, lots of straight pipes around here, sweet.

Those of you that ditched the kitty, how'd you get it off?

Is it just straight sections of 4" required to straight pipe an 05, or will I need a bent piece to make the system line up correctly.

I'd like to straight pipe my new truck the day I pick it up if possible, just need to have all the stuff lined up before I go pick it up. :)

Anyone have pics of their setup?

I know it's gonna sound sweet, I just have to find the easy way to do it without destroying that $900 cat!!

Tomeygun - did your straight pipe modification affect the local safety inspection? I know that we are exempt from the EPA stuff, but wondered about the safety.

Thanks - BigFlat

Straight Pipe

I ran a straight pipe from the second week that I got my truck for about 5 months. At first it sounded great but I had the drone between 1800 and 2200 RPM.

This got to be annoying and obnoxious. I think the straight pipe sound is to raw and too raspy.

I then lost the kitty and went with a resonator and a 24" flow through muffler. Let me tell you, this is wasy better than the first setup. The tone is also deeper and sounds a little bit more refined. However, when you mash the pedal it sound awesome. It is loud but a pleasant sounding deep tone. It probably comes down to a personal preference but I couldnt be happier and the drone is gone!! If anyone wants to hear my setup, just contact me.

BTW, all the work was done by Rip and Robert at Source Automotive

Straight pipe means from the turbo to the end of the tailpipe. If you have a cat that is not a straight pipe.

The guy that I work with took everything out and added a 5" tip after having it about a month sounds pretty good.

I just bought the 5" kit from Stans headers, mine seems to have a lot more snap and has a real deep tone, a lot deeper than just straight through Oo.
