Holeshot VS Tornadage

My wife and I are buying a different house on several acres and the current owner has a Yanmar tractor that he wants to sell to us.

I saw the tractor off in the distance, but it was raining so I didn't run it yet. I'll be going back out there to look at it a little closer this weekend.

Anyway, it is supposed to be an '86 with a 26hp 2 cylinder diesel and has "about" 300 hours on it. The owner has had it since new and it has been used only to mow about 1. 5 acres.

Anybody have any experience with these tractors? Anything specific to look for or to look out for?

I know that my father in law has a john deere tractor with a yanmar engine in it if that counts for anything.

He's asking $1200 for it just FYI.

Thanks,

Mike

At 300 hours that engine is barely broken in. My John Deere garden tractor has a Yanmar 3-cyl with 750 hours, and it still runs like new. Plus, I paid a heck of a lot more than $1200 for mine.

You could probably turn a sweet profit if you decide to sell that tractor later for whatever reason. Sounds like a deal that I wouldn't pass up.

A friend of mine just paid about $6000 for one similar to that, probably a little smaller. It had some implements with it, but if it runs it's probably a good deal - especially if you want to buy/sell.

From what I've heard Yanmar is the bomb when it comes to small diesels. Yanmars are used in alot of sailboats as the aux. power. Friend of mine is a pro sail/yacht driver and has been happy with Yanmars for years.

Don't know if this appliest to you or not. I recently bought a Yanmar mini excavator (Manufactured in 83 supposedly), according to the owner, it has an Isuzu diesel 3 cylinder in it. Can't find a way to verify that it is an Isuzu, but the guy seemed to know the machine very well.

I am on my 4th john deere with a yanmar engine. there engines are soild. Keep in mind a yanmar is a off bred so to speek. They are not worth near as much as the big three. visit tractorbynet and become a member, it's free and you will learn alot of info. Some thing to ask is parts handy or hard to come by. For that kind of money I would probley do it. You can't buy a lawn mower that will last very long for that price.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I'll be going out there to run it this weekend and see how it runs. I talked to the owner and the tractor comes with a small shredder, a blade, and a plow of some sort.

Anyway, thanks again and I'll let everyone know what happens when I look at it this weekend.
