I have a 95 12-valve and am considering using an alternative fuel. I have heard of a coolant heated fuel filter and am interested in where to get it and if it works. Feel free to e-mail me at -- email address removed -- or send me a "pm"

heated fuel filter

Hello Ghuff

Will they make a few of them

davco, racor, vormax, the list goes on.

some heat only to 80 degrees some higher

fass fuel filters THE PUMPS WITH THE FILTERS have ports that will heat the fuel also it really not that hard to build heat in the fuel lines also I can gain 40degrees just by running the coolent lines and fuel lines together.

Air dog filters I am not sure if they can be heated if the people at air dog would like to send me one I would give it a try. (HINT HINT)

Hope this helps you

That might be great for fuel after it GETS to the filter - but what about lines and tank, if fuel freezing is the concern?

In the cold weather, filter waxing and plugging is more of a concern than complete fuel system gelling. Additive will help with the gelling, but filter waxing can still occur (I know from experience). By keeping the filter warm, you prevent filter waxing. If your fuel gels in the tank, its not like the engine (or any 12volt heaters) are going to do much anyway (not like the engine would be running or that you'd have enough voltage to make a difference).

For what its worth, you could build your own fuel heater for just a few bucks... a block of aluminum, couple passages, couple fittings, and you have a fuel heater.

Oh, and check eBay, they sell fuel heaters on there all the time.

And you can get heated filter heads... just can't remember where I found them at...

I was looking into the fuels like cj hall is running. I had to give it up due to a drastic schedule change. If you want to learn more check out cj hall's thread in alternative fuels, it is the top one with all the hits.

The Problem with a Coolant Heated Fuel filter is there is no heat source when you need it most, when the engine is cold.

You need an electric heater, that can run off the charging system with a built in thermostat.

There Are some 12 volt Thermal Blanket heaters you might be able to adapt.
