engine timing re smarty

IE: I have 265/17" on my 2500 06 4X4 w/ 4. 10 rear

its a little too low geared for my use (I don't tow much) and my fuel milege is not that great. What tire size would bring my ratio back to

3. 73 ??

I believe you'll have to increase tire size to "35's". That'll help lower your rpm's but the added weight and drag of the bigger tires may negate the gains.

Thanks! finely I have an inch figure I can work with. So 35" is what in tire size rating? Like 315/R70 17? thats the part that I am confused about

265 are usualy around 32 inches tall. every inch of tire you add is about 7 gear points. So 410's will be (roughly)403's if you add 1 inch of tire.
