Got a job, sort of......

After having a required employment physical last week, found out my cholesterol is high (not surprised) and have to go on the low fat/cholesterol diet before I go on Lipitor. With the history of heart disease in my family, I will do it so I don't bite the big one by the time I am 40 (almost 39 now). Guess maybe I will add ketchup to everything to make stuff taste good:D Nothing like ordering a salad  at the next "Bombing Event" at Hooters in Madison

Sounds like a good reason to drink Beer though, it's very low in fat/cholesterol. Seriously hope you get it under control!

Beat this

Cholesterol was well over 300 and tryglycerides were over 1300.

My Dr called me at 7:00 am to see if I was "OK" the day he got the results. :-laf

I went on the fat free diet, went well, and I lost a few pounds (I'm about 20 lbs over weight) but my energy level dropped wayyyy too much. I did nothing but sleep while at home.

I went back to eating "normal", gained back my 20 lbs and take the tricor medicine.

My cholesterol hovers in the low 200's and my tryglycerides are high too, but not out of spec. :D

Exercise is a big help, but working 14 hrs a day, sometimes 7 days a week really kills the energy-motivation level in my off time.

You don't say what your cholesterol is. Total cholesterol is not as significant as the ratio of HDL to LDL and the level of tryglicerides.

Dietary Cholesterol has very little to do with raising or lowering Cholesterol. Other than trans fats, neither does fat.

Believe it or not tryglicerides which is fat in your blood is made from carbohydrates and exess insulin which causes the liver to make more cholesterol is a result of carbohydrates.

Get a book called "Protein Power" by Michael and Mary Eades and it will enlighten you on this subject. It is available at Amazon.com

you will never regret it.

Also, don't try to stick to your diet 100% of the time. It's OK the have a "treat" every now and then. If you don't, at some point you'll crack and the good you did on your diet will go out the window. If you stick to the diet most of the time, it will be fine to have those wings or greasy burger at Hooters.

I don't buy into that low-carp crap, but stick to carbs that are lower on the glycemic index. Sweet potatoes instead of regular. Brown or wild rice instead of white rice. Whole wheat bread instead of white. You can find a glycemic index online if you look.

NEVER trust a medical industry doctor.

Before you fall into the bottomless pit of the modern medical industry (note I did not say Health Care - they care nothing about your health other than keeping it bad) take a look at the Eat Right for Your Blood Type diet. Six weeks ago I had gut pains that made me lay on the floor and sweat. After consulting a Homeopathic dietitian, she put me on an easy blood type oriented diet. I have had significant improvement since then. All the supplements or pills in the world will not help if your body can not get them into the system. Young, heart disease - I bet you are Type A. Naturopathic Practitioners - they actually want you to get better and know what they are talking about. Medical industrialists - once you get better, they stop getting money out of you.

Good advice from Jeff on the reducing the white sugars from your diet. My ldl's are high and my doc has me take Bios 2 Life before every meal. It encapusals the bad ldl's and ships them out of you system requiring your body to supply more. Six months of this and I retest, we will see. Not bad stuff, better than Lipitor. Of course, changing eating habits is a must. Low carb,no bad fats, and counting calories has lost me 35 lbs in 30 days, now its 1 lb. a week. Slow going from now on. Yes, I do have 1/2 cup of Carb Smart ice cream in the evenings at 120 calories. Works for me. Yes I do miss the things I used to eat, but oh well. Tim,
