Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Anyone rebuilt a VP44

Has anyone ever tried to rebuild a VP44? Is there anything you can do to make it less suseptable to pierced wire related failure? What about pulling more power out of it?



I just can't believe the prices that these (relatively) simple pumps are going forOo.
