Anyone removed "edge filters" from injector lines?

I was reading the Dodge manual, and they mention "edge filters" in the six connectors thru head to injector body.

Anyone here removed those? Why spend on a new CP3 while having a built-in restriction in the injector line which prevents full rail pressure from reaching the injector?

The only downside is that if the cp3 pump sheds any metal larger than about 25 microns, it may clog the injector needle causing it to get stuck open.

Hrmm, I didn't know about those. I would be interested to know more about how they are configured and function. What happens to debris that would get caught by an edge filter?
 
The edge filter is designed to break up any debris that is in the fuel system after the filter. The high pressure fuel forces the debris into the filter and breaks it into smaller particles that are not supposed to damage the injector.
 
the edge filter does not stop debris it makes the debris smaller before it hits the injector, thats its only purpose. we have sold a few sets of edm'ed connector tubes to those who want to make big HP. in turn it will give you a straight shot into the injectors, with no hold backs and even allows for more fuel holding capacity within the fuel system--further keeping rail draining to an absolute minimum. :cool:
 
Sorry but I am still not invisioning how it works.

Only thing I can think of is an orifice that necks down to a smaller orifice all at once leaving a sharp edge for debris to straddle and pressure to bust in 1/2, is that what it is?



If it won't stop debris then is it safe to assume it is a component not to consider in a diagnostic procedure such as a cylinder not getting fuel?

accually it is similar, but it is reccomended that you replace them when doing injectors--but no one does. and we do regularly check them to see if there is any signs of debris, most of the time you wont find any, but on a few of the first modded cp3's we did find a lot of metal debris, since then we switched to a company that has higher quality controll and all is well. and from that learning expierience found a way to make our trucks go faster. and as far as reliability is concered, as long as your truck is all broke in and you have 3 micron or better filtration, and run a lubricant type of additive you will have no problem with debris once you delete the edge filter.
 
With the connector tubes in my hand, I can see day light thru my II edm'd connector tubes. Before I could not see thru them. Been running the filter less connector tubes from Industrial for 6 months and no problems. I also run a fass 200 with the 3 micron filter which should take care of most trash!
